rumble day was upon them and everyone seemed to be extra energized. ponyboy was bouncing on the couch next to harley only making her nauseous feeling worse.

"ponyboy can you please-" harley cut herself off by projectile vomiting across the living room.

"what the fuck harley!" two-bit yelled.  standing up to only watch the vomit roll down his jacket.

"sorry!" harley gasped trying to clean up the floor with a couple napkins she found in the couch.

"you're okay." two-bit said softly, grabbing the trashcan from the kitchen and setting it in-front of her.

darry followed him with towels handing one to harley and taking one to the living room. "are you alright harls?"

"yeah i'm okay. just um, pre rumble nerves." harley lied. some of it was pre rumble nerves for sure, but more than likely she vomited because she didn't know how to spend the day with dallas winston. their kiss at the drive-in played in her head almost as much as their breakup. she hugged the can closer to her in fear of what her body would do when he walked through that door.

"alright." darry said skeptically before sitting next to her and pulling harley in a hug. she accepted the hug pulling herself closer.

"do i have to fight today?"

"no, but if you want my honest opinion, i think you should." darry said rubbing harley's back before standing back up.

harley nodded and tried to feed off the energy in the house. steve and sodapop came in after getting off work early with big smiles on their faces. they were laughing and wrestling before they even took off their shoes. ponyboy and johnny seemed to be giggling more than usual and even darry joined in. it made harley happy to see darry and ponyboy act like brothers apposed to a father and son. two-bit wouldn't leave harley alone constantly cracking jokes until she smiled. honestly she had started to feel pretty good before he walked in.

he walked in with a smirk across his face. he loved rumbles. she knew he loved rumbles. everyone knew that. it wasn't that often you seen dallas winston genuinely excited for something. hell it would've made harley smile if it didn't also make her wanna cry. she loved dallys smile, and now it was reminding her they weren't together. she then remembered the kiss, although she would be lying if she said she hadn't been thinking about it since it happened. she didn't regret it. if we are being honest harley wanted to kiss him again. however she would never get over him that way.

everyone seemed to take the hint to not mention the vomiting around dally and harley was grateful for that. "you ready to rumble!" steve cheered running up to ruffle harley's hair. she let out a small laugh and nodded.

"steve is that a switchblade?" harley asked her tone changing to a more concerned one.

"yeah, just incase you know?"

"put that away do you know how much trouble you'll get in for having that if someone calls the cops?" darry scolded.

"what's the matter? i got mine too. no ones gonna call the cops." two bit announced.

"of course you do." harley sighed.

"i'm ready to rumble!" sodapop cheered changing the subject.

"let's go rumble then!" darry yelled earning cheers from the group as they ran out of the house. they ran together some doing tricks. steve backflipped off a car causing harley to laugh and the two ran faster to catch up with the group.

_____

when they arrived evie was already there sitting on a car off to the side of the field they were in. she waved at them a cheerful smiled across her face. harley waved back and stood next to steve and soda. everyone around them seemed to be staring each other down. harley wasn't the only girl in this rumble this time. she noticed a few girls that were known around town for kicking ass. she couldn't help the small pang of jealousy, 'what if dally liked them better. they have more in common'.

harley had no choice but to shake the idea out of her head and focus because in the time she was lost in thought the rumble had begun. sodapop managed to buy her a bit of time but now they were coming at her. she felt as if her body was on autopilot. she kept punching and she didn't even know what she was doing, just that she was fighting and she couldn't stop.

she also knew dally was watching, and she didn't care like she thought she would. she was honestly pretty thankful for it when she locked eyes with the last person she expected to see there. her soc ex-boyfriend from the summer in all his glory. it caught her so off guard she would've taken a big punch to the face, luckily the guy who was coming at her was immediately pushed out of the way by dallas winston. harley shook her head and went to help dally who nodded and ran off to find his own fight. he was there for her just like that.

"you like him?" the soc she was fighting said attempting to distract her. harley just gave him a glare but he kept going not wanting to fight anymore. "he clearly likes you i mean."

"are you gonna fight or not?" harley groaned before she paused seeing a police officer wander on the property. "shit!"

in the moment she was distracted the soc had pulled a blade and sliced harley's abdomen opening the scar from previously this year. dally wasted no time when he noticed this and tackled the soc pinning him to the ground.

"dally! harley!" darry yelled from across the field trying to get them to run from the police.

"shit." dally whispered before grabbing harleys arm. he attempted to help her walk but it was more like him dragging her across the field to safety.

harley tried to stop him seeing many greasers being arrested by the cops, including steve and two-bit. "dally-"

"i know harley. there's nothing i can do right now other than get you out." dally said cutting her off.

______

they eventually reached the curtis house and got harley patched up. dally sat next to her on the couch as they listened to darry pace. sodapop took ponyboy to bed and johnny was asleep in the chair.

"do you need anything?" dally whispered.

"you know, now that you mention it. last time this happened wasn't to bad." harley giggled.

"i don't have shit on me and i think ponyboy would kill us if we took from his stash." dally said shaking his head.

"alright, i guess your company is good enough."

"good enough?!" dally gasped pretending to be hurt.

"more than good enough." harley said before kissing him. she didn't regret it this time.

"you know i'm really sorry harley."

"i know. and i miss you."

"i miss you too." dally said kissing her and pulling away again, "harley valentine will you be my girlfriend?"

      "yes."
