The rain fell softly and the sky was dark and ominous. My mother held my hand tightly as I ran along side her, my bag slowed me down and made my back ache but my mother urged me to keep pace.
My small lungs were desperate for air and my legs cried for a break but mom drug me along.
A fresh bruise was forming on her cheek and her lip and nose were busted.
Tears littered her eyes.
I didn't understand why we were running, daddy always did this. It was normal. He always hurt us but this time mom decided it was too much, I didn't understand why.
I heard a loud booming shout behind us, it was louder than the thunder, it made my chest rattle and my legs shake. Moms hand clung to mine tighter as she drug me along, even quicker now.
"Come on sweetie." She said softly, her voice was a hoarse whisper.
"Mommy I'm scared.." I replied, tears filling my eyes as well now.
"It's okay, just be fast and quiet, like a bunny." she looked down at me and smiled weakly, I knew it was fake but it still made me feel a touch better. My legs were getting scratched from the brush in the woods that we were running through.
"God dammit woman!" The rough voice screamed. "Get back here! You and the girl are my damn property!"
The voice was getting closer and I could hear the heavy footsteps breaking sticks that they came across.
We broke through the woods into a road, nearly getting hit by two men on their horses.
They seemed annoyed at first but their expressions quickly softened when the saw us. "Are you two alright?" The man closest to us asked.
"Take my daughter and I with you, p-please!" My mom stuttered out. "We need a place to go, anywhere." She walked closer to the man on the horse and pleaded.
Before the man was able to reply though my dad broke through the woods and grabbed me roughly. "What the hell do you twos think you're doin." He growled as he tightened his grip and lifted me off the ground by my wrist.
"Hey man, calm down." The man mom was crying to said sternly.
I squirmed in my dad's grip. "Daddy please!" I cried out. As soon as I said 'daddy' the man seemed to get angrier.
"Shut ya damn mouth." He pulled his knife from his belt and looked at my mom. "You think you can just leave with MY child." He growled, his voice was still a booming roar like thunder. The man on the horse jumped down and drew his sword, pushing my mother behind him.
My father drug the sharp blade across my back, starting on my left shoulder going down to my right hip. "Stop!" My mother screamed.
"I'm just markin my territory love." He offered a cold smile with his yellow teeth. Before he could do anymore damage the man lunged his sword through my fathers chest, skimming my arm slightly by mistake.
The tight grip on my wrist was released as my father collapsed to his knees, letting out a cold laugh. "you killed me kid." He said making strong eye contact with me. "I was just havin fun."
My tearful mother darted to my side and held my small, damaged body close to her.
Michael's P.O.V
Annie shifted beside me, mumbling softly in her sleep.
"Is she okay?" Gavin said as he looked down at she as she started to toss and turn more in her sleep.
I shrugged. "I don't know." I moved and place my hands on her shoulders, looked at her face for a moment before shaking her slightly. "Annie, wake up."
Her eyes shot open and her breath hitched. Her wide eyes looked into mine confused and scared for a moment until she realized she was awake.
"S-sorry.." She whimpered. "Did I fall asleep?" She added.
Gavin stared at her. "Are you bloody alright? You look like you saw a ghost."
Annie forced a smile that I could easily tell was fake as fuck. "Just a bad dream, it's alright." Thunder boomed and she grabbed onto me and buried her head into my shoulder, her whole body trembled and shook. I cautiously placed my hand on her shoulder, she was always bad with thunder, especially when we were really young, she should never tell me why. Always quick to evade the question, and her mother did the same. "I'm s-sorry m-mikey." She said softly into my sleeve. I wrapped my arm around her and pulled her closer to me.
"Hush, it's alright." I tried to keep my voice soft and calm. Gavin for once kept his mouth shut and just let me try to work with her. His mouth hanging open slightly, amazed to see her in such a state I'm sure.
About an hour or so later the rain let up, Annie stayed glued to my side the entire time and Gavin just play with the fire we had lit for warmth.
Once it was over we wasted no time getting back to achievement city, the guys were basically waiting for us outside.
"Are you all okay?" Jack shot a sympathetic look at Annie, her eyes were bloodshot from crying still.
Annie nodded but say silent. Without even a 'hello' she disappeared to my house.
"Holy shit is she alright?" Ray shot a look at Gavin and I.
"She hates thunder." I said bluntly before basically darting to my house after her, leaving Gavin behind to explain, even though he didn't seem to know much either.
"Annie?" I walked inside to see her staring into the mirror.
