Bitter Sweet

I let myself into Gavin's house before he got there. I felt as if I were trespassing and felt a bit guilty entering his house before being given officially permission but I didn't want to risk anyone else seeing me. I felt silly enough as it is.

I had barley took two steps into his house when I heard the front door open and close behind me. I just kept my back turned to the door and sighed softly.

"Do you want to talk about what happened?" Gavin said softly from behind me. I could tell he was trying to be careful around me. I just shook my head without bothering to face him again.

"I'm just tired right now." I cleared my throat in an attempt to get my voice back. I hated being this vulnerable in front of anyone other than Micheal and even he was on thin ice. Talking about my emotions had just never been something I was great at.

Gavin moved past me and nodded. "You can sleep in my bed tonight." He looked at me with friendly eyes and I opened my mouth to protest until he shushed me. "I'll be fine on the floor." He smiled. "This will be like our first sleepover!" He said cheerfully and I couldn't help but smile as well. I doubt he knew how much it meant to me that he was trying to bring the mood up rather than pry at me to open up and talk about what had happened.

"Thank you, Gavin." I said with a sad smile. He nodded.

"I like seeing you smile." He said sweetly before leaving to go grab blankets to make himself a bed on the floor.  I wandered around his house to look around while he got ready. It was pretty simple without much to it. He didn't need to keep much in it anyways since everyone only went in their houses to sleep anyways. I looked down at my bandaged hand and frown slightly and slowly started to get lost in my thoughts until Gavin called my name.

I followed the sound of his voice. "What's up?" I said once I got to him. It only took a few seconds to end up back next to him.

"Are you hungry?"

"Not really I gues-"

"I have some cake left! We should have some." He said sweetly completely ignoring what I had said before heading off to his kitchen table where a small box of cake was. There were two slices left. "It's vanilla! Jack made me it." I couldn't help but giggle slightly at his childish charisma.

I walked over to the table and looked at the cake that he was placing onto two plates. "Vanillas my favorite." I said absent minded. I looked back up to notice him staring at me but as soon as he saw me look his eyes instantly shot back down to the cake. I could've sworn that I saw his cheeks turn a bit red but I didn't mention it.

He sat down at the table to eat and passed me a plate. I really wasn't very hungry but I still ate to be polite. Also I needed to eat despite my missing appetite I hadn't eaten yet today and it was getting late. I watched Gavin for a minute with a faint smile. "Thank you, Gav." He nodded.

"I'm here for you if you ever need it. I don't know what's going on and I'm not very good with words but I will at least listen to you talk." He said before taking another bite of his cake. His plate was almost empty and I still had a little more than half of my cake left on my plate.

"I probably won't be talking about my emotions any time soon but I appreciate the sentiment." I paused. "Thank you for stopping me earlier."

"Please don't try it again." He said softly.

I just nodded and took another bite of my food.

We both sat in silence while we finished but it wasn't an awkward quiet. It was a comfortable silence and I appreciated it. Just having a person near me was support enough. He finished his cake before me but remained at the table while I finished eating. Once I finished he took my plate and tided up quickly. "Do you want help cleaning up?"

He shook his head. "I got it." I nodded in response and let out a small yawn. "It's getting late let's head to bed, yeah?" I nodded once more and stood up, stretching as I did so.

The bed he made on the floor for himself was directly next to his actual bed so I tried to step around it but still walked on it by accident. I sat down on his bed and he turned his lights off before making himself comfortable on the floor. I laid back on the bed and kept my eyes glued to the ceiling. I didn't want to fall asleep in case I got a nightmare but I was exhausted. I wasn't ready for him to see me like that but I knew it would be unavoidable. I sighed heavily and eventually just closed my eyes and tried to fall asleep.
