Malak strode over to the podium and began to speak.
"The ring piece has been put back. You are all off duty for now, but I would like to speak with you three," He pointed at Micheal, Felix and Chauncey. "Inside. We have important matters to discuss." He glanced at the human sitting next to the podium. "And bring that pathetic sack of flesh and bone while you're at it."
Two of the Gold Watchers walked over and picked you up, walking you over to Malak as he teleported all of you inside the manor. You were in a room with a fireplace, four chairs near the middle of the room. Malak was sitting in one already, beckoning all of you to sit. You just sat on the floor, as you did he began to speak.
"Before we begin, we can't have them listening to our plans, so might as well mark their mind and be done with it, hmm? It's like killing two birds with one stone. Bring them here."
The statue closest to you nudged you to get up, and lightly pushed you towards Malak. You glared at him, but then something strange began to happen. Your vision became blurry, and you blacked out.
And then you saw it. Every horrible thing you'd ever done, all the stuff you've tried to leave behind, came rushing back to you. You tried to resist the guilt culminating in your gut, and forced it all away, letting out a heavy sigh.
"Hmm. You're stronger than you look. All those years of suffering must've toughened you up eh?" Malaks arrogant voice echoed throughout the space you were in.
It all came back again, but more intense and forceful, pushing at the very edges of your mind. Memories lost to time, and one that you didn't even know you had swam in your head despite all efforts to push it back down again. You felt the guilt and the regret and the pain return, and for the first time in a long time, fear. Fear that you'll always be unlovable, fear that you won't be successful and that you'll be a failure.
"You're already a failure..." An unknown voice spoke, but it wasn't Malak. It was yours, but distorted in some way.
"You're such a disappointment...."
"We didn't raise you to be like this..."
"Why can't you be like everybody else? Why can't you be normal?"
More and more voices joined in. They picked you apart, from your achievements to more personal things like gender, weight and sexuality. You felt like a specimen being examined and dissected. This continued for god knew how long, until you couldn't take anymore.
"STOP IT! Leave me alone..." You yelled into the dark, empty space around you. You began to sob and you felt yourself falling.
Down...
Down...
Down.
Until you hit the ground and came back to reality. There were still tears streaming down your face, and you felt frail, like you could break at any moment. Through your tears, you saw the Gold Watchers staring at you with cold, empty eyes, as well as a strange symbol flickering in and out of your sight.
"It is done. Just a little present for Bierce. Send it back."
