The sounds of Pie's loud barks from downstairs wake me. Groggily I peer through the darkness of the bedroom to check the time. 3:06 am the clock states in bold fluorescent numbers. I use the moonlight spilling through the window I left open to guide me to the bedroom door. There, I open the door and call out, "Pie! Here boy!" into the pitch black hallway.

Abruptly, Pie's barking stops and I hear him run up the stairs. I barely have a second to prepare myself before a big black body barrels into me; almost knocking me to the floor. I scratch his ears as I kneel down on the floor. I still haven't turned on the lights and I don't want to.

"What is it boy? Why aren't you sleeping?" I ask Pie sleepily. With my eyes adjusting to the darkness, I immediately spot a shadow creeping up the stairs.

My heart jumps at the sight of the intruder and I scream bloody murder.

I'm just about to grab Pie and run into my room when suddenly the lights turn on in the hallway. It takes a moment for my eyes to adjust to the sudden glare of lights. When my vision clears, I see a dirty and haggard Sebastian standing before me.

"Jesus, Leslie. Its me." My mate says as he walks to where I'm sitting by Pie. My heart takes a minute to calm and in that time I study him.

The Sebastian before me looks wild and unkept. His hair falls messily around his head and his beard is overgrown. He's wearing a t-shirt and jeans smudged with dirt. But thats not what strikes me the most. It's his hazel eyes. They gleam with a kind of predatory anger. In this moment, he is more wolf than man.

"Sebastian, where have you been? I've been trying to call you for days and you don't answer." I say forcefully as I get up and walk to him;jabbing my finger angrily at his chest. "Then I call Brian and he tells me you left. Without telling me! I've been so worried."

Now, I'm stabbing my finger into his solid muscled front. I'm so angry I almost can't see straight but I need him to know that the way he's acting isn't right.

"Do you know what it feels like? To not know where your mate is! For all I knew you could've been dead in a ditch somewhere and all this time I'm sitting here waiting like an idiot for you to call. Sebastian, I-"

I'm interrupted when Sebastian roughly grabs my ass through my shorts to haul me up into his arms to deliver a rough kiss. Instantly, my anger melts and morphs into sensual heat.

Sebastian kisses me with my body pressed flat against his. Chest to chest. Mouth to mouth. He gently kneads my butt as he deepens the kiss further; widening my mouth as his tongue pushes in to play with my own.

As Sebastian kisses me, I start to lose any semblance of thoughts of anger and betrayal. But as I'm about to fully give into his passion, I recall his callous behaviour towards me and I push away from his body.

Sebastian's arms immediately open and I stumble out of them before righting myself.

"You don't get to do that. You don't get to just kiss me and think it'll make it all better. I deserve an explanation-"

"Leslie, it's been a bad couple of days. I need you as my mate. My wolf and I know you're going into heat soon. We can smell it. Just don't deny us. Not fucking now." Sebastian says with an almost beseeching tone as he eyes me hungrily.

I'm confused as to what to say. Never before have I seen Sebastian so defeated or vulnerable.

"Sebastian,I-" I begin to say with my hand outstretched.

"Don't say it. Don't deny me. Please. I need you now." He says with both his fists clenched by his sides with the muscles on his arms and shoulders bulging.
