"Leslie, get inside now." Victor whispers to me in a harsh tone as he stands up and scans the forest around us.
"Wow, hang on. I'm not leaving you alone out here." I say as I too stand up to face the direction of where the rogues are coming from. It's definitely true that I don't have any combat training but I've got my wolf's natural killer instinct and motivation. There's no way I'm letting these rogues hurt my brother.
"You're my brother. There's no way I'm throwing you to the wolves. No pun intended." I say before transforming to wolf.
Immediately, my wolf sighs contentedly as we stretch our legs. How long has it been since I've gone wolf? I look to the forest from a different set of eyes and quickly spot the approaching footsteps of 3 trespassing men.
They step forward into the small clearing in front of my house and immediately I can tell by the way the middle man stands that he's in charge, despite the overwhelming smell of his wolf's decay. The man steps closer into the light and I manage to get a good look at him through my wolf's eyes. He's tall at over 6 feet with smooth chocolate coloured skin and big almond shaped eyes. His build is lean but lightly muscled and he's handsome but something in his eyes tells me he's not completely sane.
"Well well well. Looks like Victor's reunited with his sister. How touching." The man says with a slight English accent as the 2 men flank him by his side.
"Leave Raj. There's nothing for you here." Victor says with an icy tone. Never moving his eyes from the group. I stand in wolf form close by Victor's legs; ready to pounce and maim if necessary.
"Oh but on the contrary, I think there is something for me here. Something in the form of your delectable sister over there." Raj replies as he leers menacingly at me. Instantly, I growl with my canines on full display. I'll rip his throat out if he comes anywhere near me.
"Tsk tsk tsk. Bad dog. We just want to play for a bit. Don't we boys? You owe us after so viciously killing our friends." Raj says with his eyes scanning my wolf's body.
"You should have left when you had the chance. Now not only will I kill you for attacking my sister, I'll kill you for attacking the other pack." Victor says with his fists clenched and his jaw locked. Right now he looks more like an Alpha than my brother. My wolf growls in agreement when my pack is mentioned. She and I both want blood for what these rogues have done to them.
"Victor, you seem to always be forgetting that I'm in charge. But not to worry. After today, after I take your beloved sister and destroy you, you'll know that for sure."
Not even a second after the words leave his mouth does Victor release a battle cry and charge at Raj and his band of rogues. My wolf runs alongside him and straight into the fray. I instantly zero in on one of the two wolves flanking Raj and I lock my teeth around his shin to prevent him from going wolf.
The rogue lets out a scream and I can taste the blood and bone on my tongue as I tighten my teeth around the appendage. Suddenly, the other wolf barrels into me from my side; sending me flying into a tree and resulting in a couple broken bones. The rogue that I initially bit went wolf and now stands before my broken body with his partner by his side. I bare my teeth and growl menacingly as they both circle around my prone body. Behind me, I can hear the sounds of tearing flesh and bone but I can't afford to turn around and look. Not when these two are still eyeing me like meat.
My wolf whines pitifully in my head as she signals her exhaustion and tremendous pain. It strikes me as odd how easily tired she's become but I file that information away for a more convenient time to ponder over. Instead, I use all the energy I have to transform back to my human form.
Instantly, my body screams out in pain. It feels like every cell is on fire. When I'm done transforming, my naked and bloody body lies on the forest floor and I quickly scramble to grab the sharp branch by my side. Now, in my human form, I see the wolves inch closer and closer to me. And one is just about to lunge at me when suddenly a blur of grey and brown flies over my body and onto the two wolves. The newcomer moves so fast that I can barely follow his movements but I slowly realise that this wolf is protecting me. I take a deep breath and instantly I'm assaulted my mate's scent. Sebastian is here.
"Mate..." My wolf sighs in my head.
Then the sounds of battle snap me out of my haze and turn around;looking for Victor. I instantly spot him but this time he's not fighting Raj; but instead a member of my pack. Raj's body lies dead by a tree as Victor fights to get to me.
"Victor!" I yell with everything I've got. I force my body to sit up but I can't move any closer to Victor. The 2 wolves from my pack facing off with Victor circle him as they wait for his injuries from his fight to slip him up.
"Wait! He's my brother! Leave him!" I yell at the pair. They heed my command as their Luna and they take a few steps back but they're still on alert to Victor's actions. They don't trust him but they're not going to hurt him. At least not for now. And instantly my body relaxes. Victor could join our pack and then he wouldn't be a rogue. He could be one of us.
I'm just about to pass out from exhaustion when suddenly I hear a feral growl from Sebastian's wolf and he lunges at Victor.
"Sebastian! No! He's my brother!" I yell in panic. But my mate doesn't hear me. All he sees and smells is a rogue and instantly he attacks my brother.
"Sebastian! No!" I yell. But I'm too late. Sebastian's teeth clamp down on Victor's throat and he rips my brother' throat open. Victor collapses onto the forest floor with his life's blood pooling around him and I scream.
The last thing I see before passing out is Victor's deep blue eyes staring lifelessly at me. The last thing I hear is the sounds of my own screams ringing in my ear. And the last thing I feel is my heart tearing into 2 as my brother dies before me.
