I blink open my eyes. I'm under the covers in my bed in my room. A glance at the clock on the nightstand tells me that's its 6:14 pm. I've been asleep a little over 6 hours now. I peer around the room looking for Sebastian but he isn't here. A quick sniff tells me that he hasn't been in my room in a while.
I get up off the bed and open the door into the hallway. I hear Sebastian's voice coming from my Dad's office and I head in that direction. I spot him behind my father's desk and I stop to lean against the door jab to stare in amusement at my mate. He looks up and smiles at me while still holding the phone headset to his ear.
Sebastian has rearranged the papers on the desk in a way that can only be described as chaos. From the looks of it, he's been here a while. The normally bare desk top is covered with papers with numbers and scribbles on them. I don't understand how anyone can operate under these conditions but apparently my mate can. Luckily all of my writing is organized and saved on my laptop. The only other important paper that isn't saved on my laptop is my father's manuscript but I have that locked away in a safe.
Sebastian says something into the phone and hangs up. "Hey. You were sleeping for a long time so I thought I'd get some work done." He says to me.
"It looks like someone dropped a bomb in here. How did you get anything done?" I say with a smile on my face.
He stands up and walks to where I'm standing by the threshold. He grabs my right hand carefully and intertwines our fingers. He looks into my eyes and says, "Don't worry about me. I get things done. Are you hungry? You haven't eaten the whole day." As if on cue, my stomach lets out a rumble. My cheeks immediately heat up. Sebastian laughs.
"Oh god. That's embarrassing." I say over Sebastian's laughter.
"Come on. I made dinner." He gently tugs on our clasped hands and leads the way into the kitchen.
As soon as I enter the kitchen, my nose is assaulted by the most heavenly smells. I close my eyes and inhale as deeply as I can. From the scent I can already tell its some form of pasta with meatballs and it's going to taste good. I'm so hungry, I'm salivating.
I sit at the table while Sebastian goes to the stove and scoops out our food onto a pair of plates. I see that he's already laid out the table with the only fine china table set I have. There are lighted candles on the table top and even a vase filled with flowers.
"Sebastian, this is really romantic and sweet of you to do. Thank you so much." I say.
"No problem. What are mates for?" He says to me with a wink. He sets the plate in front of me and sits down across the table. I immediately dig in and as I predicted it's delicious. I close my eyes to savour this divine taste. I open them again to the sight of Sebastian silently laughing at me.
"What?" I say, a little self-conscious. Was I chewing with my mouth open?
"You were moaning." Sebastian says after he stops laughing at me.
"Oh god. This is so embarrassing.", I reply. This time I don't even need to feel it to know that I'm blushing furiously. I think I've blushed more in this last day than I have in all my life.
"Don't be. You look sexy when you moan." And that makes me blush even harder. I quickly think of another topic to change the subject.
"What work do you do?" I say.
"Well, besides from the standard alpha duties, I own a construction company and in my free time I dabble in stocks." He says in between bites of pasta.
"Where do you live?"
"Not too far away from your pack's territory actually. About 500 miles away. That's why I was invited to your pack meeting. There's an infestation of rogue wolves in between our 2 territories. No one knows why but we have to get rid of them soon. We estimated maybe 10 rogues in between our lands. I'm actually surprised you're allowed to live here on your own. It's dangerous around here. Why hasn't your alpha ordered you to move into the pack house yet?" He scowls at me and I'm a bit taken aback by his question.
True. Most pack members aren't allowed to live on their own but I'd lived here for years with my Dad and when he passed away I didn't even think about asking for a transfer. This is my home.
"I've lived here all my life Sebastian and I'm safe. Nothing has ever happ-" I'm cut off by the sound of breaking glass coming from my bedroom.
