Jordyn's POV

My eyelids peel apart from one another and find light again, which causes me to shield my eyes once again with my hand.

I then blink a few times and sit up, finding that I'm in a steel room. Training room to be exact...

"Hello," I hear a familiar voice over the intercom. "Nice to finally talk to you again. Been that long, has it?"

"What do you want Phillip?"

(A/N NEW CHARACTER!!!)

"Nothing. I just wanna talk." I can tell he's smiling.

"Is that right?"

"Yes, actually. I remember you use to hate me for I don't know why-"

"You know why."

"Do I? How would I? You never told me; now did you?"

"Think about it. You don't think often, but just try it for a moment. Here's a hint– blood."

He thinks. "Still don't get it."

"You hurt someone I cared about. How can you not remember that?!"

"And who was that exactly?"

"Do I have to do all the thinking for you?! You hurt Macy! My best friend back in middle school!"

"Who still don't get it, do you? How about you think for a moment."

I think. I'm still confused.

"Explain everything to me! Now!"

"Feisty one, aren't you?" He chuckles a little. "Who does Macy remind you of? Someone that you've seen recently, maybe?"

I think. Nothing comes up except...

"Nicole..."

"That's right! We have a winner!"

"What is this supposed to do with anything!"

"You know how Mary changed her name from Julie; that's what she did, but it was to get away from me, not running away from family. As I say, life hurts. She wanted to run away from the pain, and look where it got her."

"You did this to her! Why?!"

"It's just what I do..."

"When I get my hands on you-"

"You'll what? Kill me? Hurt me? How are you supposed to do any of those things? I saw you during middle school; the quiet girl who never says or does anything to help or change. You can't do a thing..."

"How much you want to bet?"

"Oh gladly!" He says like a five-year-old girl. "We're creating our own Hunger Games since Finnick owes us. He has made many surprises in store for us, so if you want to prove you can survive, or even kill me, join. I'd love to see you try."

"I'd love to."

"Great. See you in a few days."

And he presses the button that releases the door.

I start to walk out, but I turn back. "And you know what? Life may hurt, but it heals! Nicole is healed now! No matter what you put her through! She has proved that life hurts but heals! Life hurts bit heals! That are going to be my last words if I do die in the arena; I can promise you that!"

And I walk out with my knuckles blood blushing.

Carl's POV

After Finnick had picked me up in my old sheriff truck, he drives me to a pit in the middle of the woods. In the pit holds as many weapons as you can think of. Swords, daggers, knives, bow and arrows, spears, etc.

I question after it gets quiet, "Why did you want to bring me out here?"

"I wanted to show what weapons would be available. My friend has a forcefield already along the arena, so we're ready after we train-"

"We're going to train?"

"Of course. All tributes train before they enter the arena, correct?"

"I guess." I shove my hands in my jacket pockets.

"Anyway. We will check for any extra weapons, so don't even try. My friends Devin, Pete, Jade, Teresa, Morgan, Glenn, Maggie, and some others I can't remember are going to compete, not including you. Everything is going to be controlled by my friend Ashton. He knows how to put fear into people just as well as I do-"

"Then he must not be very good at it."

"You'll think twice when you enter the arena.  Everything that you care about out here is not going to mean a single thing in that arena, including Jordyn."

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"You'll find out," he smirks.

"Hey, life hurts, but t it eventually heals. Life hurts but heals, and it may heal slowly, but it heals. Don't ever forget that, no matter what happens."

"Are you trying to help me?"

"You'll find out," I mock.

No matter what happens in that arena, I will heal. It will hurt, but heal. Just like life. Life hurts but heals...
