Chapter Twenty-Three

Once upon a different life

We rode our bikes into the sky

But now we call against the tide

Those distant days are flashing by

"We should probably get up." Niall whispered, looking at me sleepily as I glanced over at the alarm clock. Niall and I were enjoying a quiet Sunday morning in our bed. His head was on my bare chest, quiet hums of satisfaction as I ran my fingers through his hair.

"It's only eight. Kids won't be up for another hour." I whispered back, kissing his forehead softly.

"I know... but I need a shower." Niall scrunched up his nose, his eyes crinkling at the sides as he did that.

"You're right... You smell." I teased, moving away from him as if was proving a point. He rolled his eyes at that, sticking his tongue out before sitting up.

"Jerk."

"I love you." I smiled at him, sitting up myself as he climbed out of the bed.

"I love you too. Are you going to join me?" He asked, a lopsided grin on his face as he started to walk towards the bathroom. I pretended to think about it for a minute.

"I don't know... Sleep for an extra hour... or have hot steamy shower sex... that's a difficult decision. I don't think I'm cut out for this." I tapped my chin before throwing my hands up in desperation.

"We're not going to have sex." Niall said, rolling his eyes at me.

"Then I guess I'll take the extra hour of sleep."

"But I'll be lonely." Niall pouted, folding his arms over his chest as he did so.

"Not my fault." I shrugged before throwing the blanket over my head as I laid back down. I was smiling underneath the covers as Niall gave a dramatic sigh.

"Please?"

"Shhh. I'm trying to sleep." I said, trying to stifle a giggle. I was finding this far more entertaining than I should... it had been a while since we had been this carefree.

"Harry..." His voice sounded close now, which meant that he was moving towards the bed. I tried my best not to burst into laughter, even though this wasn't that funny.

"Harry's not here." I said, still refusing to remove the blanket. It was then that I felt a weight on top of me, fingers prying at the blanket that I was holding securely over the top of my head.

"Harry, you're worse than the kids." Niall groaned, still trying to get the blanket away from me.

"Yeah, but I'm cuter." I said, now starting to giggle as Niall finally got the blanket away from me. He pulled it away from my face, his eyebrows arched but there was still a smile on his face.

"I'm not so sure about that." He said, humor clear in his voice as he looked at me. It was my turn to arch my eyebrows, a small frown on my face as I looked at him.

"I'm cute." I pouted.

"The kids are cuter." Niall said, clicking his tongue and shrugging. I glared at him as he just continued to smile, his eyes sparkling in the morning light.

"Take that back."

"Make me." He winked which of course left me only one option. I had to teach him a lesson.

"If you insist." I smirked, earning a curious look from Niall before grabbed his hips. He didn't even get a chance to protest before I flipped us over, his back pressed against the sheets as he glared up at me. I took both his hands before pinning them to either side of his head, a smirk on my face as he struggled.

"Harry."

"Yes Niall?"

"Get off."

"Not until you tell me I'm cuter." I said, smiling as I hovered over him. Niall just glared at me, still trying to get away.

"Don't make me lick your face." I warned, still smiling as he continued to glare.

"You're an ass." He grumbled.

"It takes four words and then it's all over.... 'you are cuter Harry', that's all you gotta say."

"Harry..."

"Yes Niall?"

"You are... an idiot." He smirked at me and all I could do is shake my head at him fondly. I leaned down and kissed him softly.

"Your idiot. Always gonna be your idiot." I whispered before promptly licking his face. Niall let out a very girly squeal as I jumped off the bed. I quickly ran out of the room only to see A.J. walk out of his room. It was then that I grabbed the six year old boy, using him as a human shield between me and my very angry husband.

"Daddy? Wh-"

"Harry... let the boy go and no one gets hurt." Niall was now standing in the hall way. I held A.J. close, bending down to whisper into his ear.

"When I say never, I want you to aim for the legs. Hug them like Jemma does. If you don't do this Alexander, you will no longer be my favorite eldest son."

"But Daddy... I'm your only eldest son..." He said, looking at me in confusion.

"Details. Remember... aim for the legs." I whispered again before patting his shoulder. I stood up at that point. Niall was looking at me as if I had gone crazy.

In all honesty, I probably had.

"Never!" I screeched, but A.J. made no move for Niall's legs. In fact he walked right past Niall, shaking his head as he did so.

"Alexander! Come back! You're supposed to be on my side!" I called after him, but he didn't even look back.

"You're worse than uncle Zee.... You both are." He shouted back, earning offended looks from not only myself but Niall as well.

"Tickle monster?" Niall asked. I shook my head before looking towards the twins room.

"No... I think it's time to release the kraken..." I said, opening the door to reveal the twins who were playing together quietly on the floor. Jemma looked at us with a smile, waving before going back to her blocks.

"The kraken?" Niall asked curiously. I pointed towards Jemma, sudden realization coming over his face.

"Jemma... A.J. wants some cuddles."
