Everything stayed pretty much the same over the next 2 years at Hogwarts.
The only thing that had changed was when Tom saw something he REALLY wanted, something he'd kill to have, his eyes flashed red, they also started to turn red when he was angry. Though when he's angry they stay red until he calms down.
The red eyes started happening after we got back from our summer in Little Hangleton.
When we graduated, Tom insisted we both apply to work at Borgin and Burkes. I didn't particularly want to, but I obliged.
While the store was alright, I didn't particularly like working there.
One day, roughly a year after graduating, Tom and I were sent to the house of Hepzibah Smith.
The owner of the store we worked at, Caractacus Burke, absolutely loved her. She claimed to be the descendant of Helga Hufflepuff but never showed any real proof of the claim until we showed up that day.
When we showed up she told us she'd specifically asked Burke to send someone, she had artifacts she wanted to get rid of but she didn't want to just give them away.
She invited us in, leading us to the living room and motioning towards the sofa before taking a seat.
Tom always did most of the talking when it came to Hepzibah, she'd always doted on him when she came into the store and made her attraction to him known.
She spent the first few minutes flirting with him while he politely ignored her advances before bringing up the goblin made armor she'd talked to Burke about in her letter.
After explaining everything about the armor and eventually selling it to the store, Tom asked her the same thing he always does.
"Was there anything you wanted to talk to us about Hepzibah?" Tom asked
"Yes Tom, you asked me the last time I was in the shop if I had any proof I was related to Helga." Hepzibah answered
"I did"
"Wait here a minute, I might have a couple things that might interest you. They're not for sale, but since you asked the last time I saw you I'll show them to you."
"Alright"
Hepzibah got up and walked out of the room.
"Tom, don't do anything stupid..." I whispered "I don't know what on earth she has, but I know you. Don't do anything to her!"
"I wouldn't dream of it Y/N"
When she came back into the room holding a double handled cup and something else clutched in her hand I saw Tom's eye flash red before she sat back down.
