{Alex's POV} 

"Hey guys." I said smiling at my roommates. 

"Do you care to 'splain why you were in the hospital?" Kat asked in her thick Spanish accent.

It reminded me of the show I Love Lucy and Ricky would always go: 'splain'. 

Heehee.

"Alex?!" Kat said asking for an answer.

"I'm Lucy and you're Ricky!" I said excitedly.

Kat shook her head and rolled her eyes.

"Yea, and why has Schuyler been going 'oh Alex, I love you. blah blah blah." Maddy said winking at me.

I blushed crimson red.

"First off, this isn't some lame Kesha song and second, Skye hasn't been going 'oh Alex, I love you.' " I said going to my room.

The girls followed.

"Okay whatever, but why were you in the hospital?" Eva asked me worriedly.

"I wasn't in the hospital, I was in the infirmary." I pointed out.

"By the size of the infirmary, it's the same thing. Besides Skye told Carter that you went into surgery, come on Alex, what happened?" Nix asked me.

"It's nothing, I just got my appendix removed." I said shrugging.

They visibly relaxed before Chris started to laugh.

"It's a good thing you're not a werewolf or else you'd be screwed." Chris smiled.

The girls chuckled but my heart stopped.

"What do you mean?" I asked deathly quiet.

The smile left the girls faces at my tone but I didn't care.

"Werewolves need their appendix to turn. It's the organ that is responsible for our turning." Maddy said to me.

"Without it you can't turn?" I asked fearing the answer.

"Nope." Nix said popping the p. 

I asked my wolf is this was true.

'yes Alex, it's true. That's why I was screaming when you fainted. Without your appendix, you cant transform and I will always be trapped inside you.' my wolf told me sadly.

"I thought the appendix was a useless organ?" I asked tears welling up in my eyes over my loss.

Which is ridiculous, considering I've never shifted and never knew what it felt like but the feeling that my wolf would be trapped in me forever made me depressed for me and for her.

"For humans it is, but for werewolves it's not. Werewolves are the first living thing to walk this planet.  Humans evolutionized from us and the appendix stood but humans can't shift. You get it?" Eva asked me.

"Why are you so worked up over it?" Chris asked me.

"No reason." I said quickly.

I ran to the bathroom and turned on the shower and scrubbed away all the dirt and pain I was feeling. When I came out I put on my fake smile that everyone thought was my real smile.

I had perfected it a long time ago. I sealed up all my sadness from today and yesterday. All the pain and grief I've felt this last year, all the people I've lost; my dad, my mom, my grams, Emily, Nancy, Aaron, Danny, Katie, Lisa, and m innocence. I pushed back my past and turned into Alexandria the brave.
