YN sighed as she lay on her back in bed, her eyes stinging from lack of sleep. Her chest moved up and down slowly with each breath she took, trying to calm herself down enough to slip into slumber. Groaning, she squeezed her eyes closed, rubbing them with her fists.
Rolling out of bed, she padded out of her room, on her way to the kitchen to make herself a warm drink. She sat on the counter as she waited for her milk to warm up, her eyes staring blankly at the counter. YN continued to stare at the counter long after the microwave had beeped.
"YN?" YN nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard her name being called, her head whipping toward where Steve was standing with a small smile on his lips. "Sorry to startle you."
"No worries." YN muttered, swallowing as she blinked slowly, stepping over to the microwave and grabbing her milk.
"Are you okay? It's four in the morning." YN nodded, still not looking away from the milk that spun in her mug. When she made no other effort to answer Steve's question, the blonde man sighed. "Is it because he's not back yet?"
YN blinked, finally moving her gaze to stare at the super soldier. "Huh?"
"Thor, is it because he hasn't returned?" YN swallowed, furrowing her brows and shaking her head.
"What are you talking about?" YN whispered, a lump forming in her throat. Steve sighed, moving over to the fridge to get the water he had gotten up for.
"It's okay to miss him, YN." Steve said, sending YN a small smile before leaving her alone in the kitchen. YN sniffed back some tears as she downed her warm drink, looking to the clock. She had promised Sam she'd go for a run with him at six, that was under two hours away.
YN groaned, deeming this another sleepless night. She washed up her mug, sitting it on the drying rack as she moved to the sofa in the living room, flicking the T.V. on quietly.
A few hours later, YN stumbled through the door with a laugh escaping her lips. "Sam, that was like eight miles." She cackled, making Sam blow out a disbelieving huff.
"It felt like twenty!" YN laughed loudly, shaking her head. "Hey, did you hear someone in the lounge this morning? It was like four am." YN swallowed, looking away quickly and shrugging her shoulders.
"No clue, Sam." Sam nodded, sighing as YN went to the fridge to grab an energy drink, hoping it would stop her from dropping dead on the spot.
"I swear I've heard it the past few weeks." YN nodded, downing the can of energy in seconds. "You shouldn't drink those, they're bad for you." The fridge door slammed closed, making Sam flinch.
"How about you worry about your wellbeing, and I'll worry about mine, 'kay?" Sam raised an eyebrow as she left the room, a concerned frown on his face.
YN stormed out of the room and down the hall, itching to punch something. She threw the door of the gym open, pacing over to the punching bags. Gloving up, YN wailed into the bag with all her might, grunting with each hit.
Bucky whistled as he entered the gym, a content smile on his face as he bobbed his head to his music. Catching sight of the woman at the gym bags, Bucky grinned, removing his headphones and moving toward her.
"Hey, YN." He said, not noticing her current mood.
"Hey." She replied, not stopping her punching.
"Did you want to-" Bucky started.
"Now's not a good time, Buck." Bucky chuckled, still not picking up on her state.
"I know you're-"
"Bucky, I said not now." YN huffed, throwing the gloves off of her fists and wiping the sweat from her forehead. Bucky frowned, running his eyes over YN's face.
"What's wrong?" Bucky asked, stepping back from YN.
"What?" YN stopped, swallowing as she stared back at him.
"What's wrong with you? You look like shit." YN licked her teeth, glaring back at the super soldier.
"Wow, thanks Bucky. Tell me how you really feel." Bucky shrugged, still looking over YN's features.
"YN-"
"Just leave me alone." She growled and once again left the room. YN stomped back down the hall, bypassing Natasha that tried to start a conversation with her but was just met with a cold glare and a grunt. Tony stared at Natasha as YN passed her, his eyes widening in shock.
"What was that?" He chuckled, meeting Natasha in the kitchen. Steve, Sam and Bucky entered not a moment later.
"What's with YN? She's being a real bitch?" Steve shook his head at his friend, nudging him with his shoulder.
"That's not nice, Buck." Bucky shook his own head, shrugging his shoulders. "She was up at four am this morning, it looked like she hadn't slept yet."
"I heard the T.V. turn on at that time, and it was still on an hour later. We went for a run at six, are you telling me she didn't sleep at all?" Steve shrugged, his arms crossing over his chest. "I bet she's the one that's been watching it at all hours of the night. She got shitty when I mentioned it earlier."
"It's been like that since Thor left." Natasha sighed, sliding up onto the counter. "She hasn't been sleeping, I've noticed her mood changing and she's become reckless on missions."
"I agree." Tony nodded, leaning on the counter by Natasha's legs. Everyone stood around the island bench for a moment, scratching their heads.
A flash of blonde hair caught Natasha's eye and she smiled. "Our think our dilemma has just been solved."
YN screamed into her pillow, the material snuffing the sound. Her head pounded as she lay face down on the bed, her body aching and her hands trembling. It had been sixty-two hours since she had last slept more than half an hour and YN was really feeling the effects of it.
She rolled onto her back, groaning as someone knocked on the door. "Go away, Bucky. I said I was fine." Another knock on the door made tears of frustration and exhaustion spring to her eyes. She stood to her feet, stomping to the door and ripping it open. "I said I was-" YN stopped, her mouth popping open as she stared at the man in front of her. "Uh-"
"Hello, YN." YN's mouth closed slowly as she blinked a few times. "Are you alright?" YN nodded, stepping back into her room as more tears gathered in her eyes, some spilling over and rolling down her cheeks. "YN?"
"You were gone for weeks." Thor sighed, stepping closer as YN continued backward, making the god frown. "Weeks, and I couldn't sleep." YN swallowed, her nails making crescent dents in her palms. "I can't sleep when you're not here. Do you know how hard that is?" YN cried, stumbling away from Thor's outstretched arm.
"YN, please. I'm back now." YN nodded, sitting on the edge of her bed.
"For how long? How long until I get back to sleeping soundlessly and you up and leave again?" Thor sighed, sitting next to her quietly. "I'm so tired."
"I know, princess." Thor whispered, wrapping an arm around her and pulling her close. "I'm here." YN nodded, sinking into Thor's arms. "I have missed you so much, my beautiful YN." YN sighed, closing her eyes.
"Miss you when you're gone." YN mumbled drifting off into a peaceful sleep. Thor smiled, shifting them both back into a comfortable position, he too dropping off into sleep, having had limited since he left YN all those weeks ago.
