A knock is heard on the door of Evie's bedroom. The brunette is lying in bed, holding a pillow to her chest. She didn't cry, but she looks sad. She thought about everything that happened last night at the bar when Nikki kissed her for the first time. It should have been beautiful. Well, it was. But at the same time, something seemed wrong.

She doesn't want anyone in her room. To see her in that state. But the knock on the door is heard again. Much stronger. And followed by the very familiar voice:

"Evie! Are you there?"

The young woman says nothing again. She hopes Amelie would leave. But of course her cousin doesn't give up so easily and forcibly opens the door and enters the room, her eyes stopping at Evie. She looks troubled and worried. She goes to her cousin's bed, she sits down and says:

"What happened last night? Why did you leave so suddenly? Tommy and I asked Nikki where you went. He didn't know anything either. What the hell happened? You had a fight?"

"No, Amelie," Evie nods and puts her head on the pillow she's holding. "We didn't argue... We kissed," Evie says in a hoarse voice.

"What?" Amelie jumps up. "Are you serious?!"

"Yes..."

"But girl..." Amelie is smiling. "This is wonderful! It finally happened! Why are you so sad? I don't get it."

"I don't want that, Am! I don't want!" Evie exclaims, straightening her back.

"Why? What is the problem?"

"I don't know if I can do this..."

"You're such a drama queen," Amelie sighs.

"We're so different... Don't tell me it's not like that," Evie gives her cousin a harsh look.

"Don't you know that it is said that different people are attracted?" Amelie smiles and shrugs.

"It's just a myth," Evie rolls her eyes.

"You're not even trying to see if it's like that..."

"I'm afraid I'll be... hurt."

"Nikki would never hurt you."

"So Tommy didn't hurt you either?" Evie looks up at Amelie, frowning.

Amelie opens her mouth to say something, but gives up and looks down, looking sad. Evie realizes she was wrong to say that. She was too tough. Yes, she couldn't help herself. She approaches her cousin, puts a hand on her shoulder and says:

"Look Amelie... I'm sorry... I didn't mean to hurt you... I'm so sorry..."

"Hey is ok," Amelie smiles faintly. "I exaggerated too. If you don't want to be with Nikki, it's okay. I won't tell you anything anymore."

"Anyway, yesterday I noticed that you and Tommy seemed closer. Are things okay between you?"

"Let's say so," there is a small smile on Amelie's face.

Evie smiles weakly and looks gloomy. Amelie wonders if anything else is wrong with her.

"Is there anything else?" Evie asks.

"Has anything bad happened, Evie?" You look much sadder.

"Tomorrow I'm going to a funeral," Evie sighs and runs a hand through her hair.

"What happened? Who died?" Amelie's hazel eyes widen in shock, waiting for an answer that she knows will shock her even more.

"It's about a high school teacher... She died in a car accident. My former classmates will also come to the funeral. I'm a little sad... You know... She really was a very kind woman."

"Oh, Ev. I'm so sorry... Do you want me to come with you?"

"No, Am. It will not be a suitable place for a pregnant woman."

"No, Ev. I'll be ok. I want to be with you there. Don't worry so much. I'm not so weak now that I'm pregnant. I told you before."

"Okay, then," Evie smiles weakly.

The next day...

Evie looks so sad at the coffin that is lowered into the pit. Next to her is Amelie who holds her hand. All around are her former classmates and her teacher's family. A multitude of flowers is placed on the coffin that reaches the base of the pit.
Evie stays a little longer, goes to the teacher's family and gives them her condolences once again and leaves with Amelie.

"Are you ok?" Her cousin asks her.

"Yes. I'm good. Don't worry about me."

"Hey, I was thinking we could go to the mall and..."

Evie barely hears a thing about what Amelie is talking about. Now her attention and gaze is on a tombstone she passes. What draws her attention to it is the name on it. "Gavin Martin." Interesting and strange. This is her father's name. She looks down. The year of birth is 1920 and the year of death is 1963. Two years before the year she was born. It is so strange that the person has the same name as her father. And what's weirder is that he has the same date of birth as his. It's just that her father died in 1965.

She's never been to this cemetery. They have no relatives who died and were buried here. Her mother's relatives live in another city, in another state. Her mother told her that her father had no living relatives. His last living relative was his mother, whom he visited before Evie was born. He was in Scotland, his native country. He was preparing to go back to the U.S. But something happened. A car hit him as soon as he got out of it, when he was in front of the airport, preparing to come home. Her mother told her that her father was buried there in Scotland. They never visited his grave. In fact, they have never been to Scotland either. Evie wanted to go there, but her mother was always vehemently opposed. And now she sees this tombstone so bizarre and it creates a deep confusion.

"Hey, Evie! Are you still listening to me?" Amelie shouts at her.

"Oh, yes," Evie nods. "What were you saying?"

"You never listen to me," Amelie nods.

"Sorry," Evie smiles weakly.

She continues to walk with her cousin, towards the exit of the cemetery, her mind still being at what she discovered.

After a few hours...

Evie gently opens the door to her bedroom. She sees her mother walking down the hall with a towel in her hand on her way to the bathroom. She enters the bathroom and Evie opens the door wide and leaves her bedroom.

She goes to the storage room. There is a closet. This is what Evie is looking for. She opens the first drawer and look at it. She can't find anything. She opens the second one. Again, she can't find what she needs. She puts her hope in the last drawer she opens right now. There are all kinds of documents. She sees the birth certificate of his mother, his sister, hers... and her father who was at the bottom of all the documents. She picks it up and stands up, walking to the window of the room so that the light touch  the old paper and she can see better. And she sees exactly what is written there. Evie reads:

"Gavin Martin, born on March 20, 1920 and died on... September 29, 1963! What the..."

Evie is really astonished. Her father has the same date of death as that tombstone she saw in the cemetery today! How is it possible! It can't be a coincidence. Something else is happening. If it's true... It means that her father died 2 years before she was born! This is pure madness. She feels a migraine form in her head and her heart beats so fast.

A flashback comes to mind. The day Nikki came to her house and saw the picture with her father. She remembers what he said:

'No. You don't look like him either.'

The fact that Nikki thought she didn't even look that her father makes her lose her mind and suspect what she hoped for not be true. She doesn't want to admit it, but all these clues lead her to a single hypothesis. There is only one explanation that the brunette says out loud:

"Does that mean," she says with a shocked look at the document, "that he can't be my Dad!?"
