After three months...
"And how do you feel?" Evie asks Amelie.
Evie is visiting Amelie to see what she's doing. She is heavily pregnant, her tummy is so big now, 6 months pregnant. Amelie puts her hands on her big belly, sighs and replies to her cousin:
"My legs are swollen and I can barely get out of bed. But I'm fine. We are fine. I can't wait for this baby to be born."
"Oh, is it really that difficult to be pregnant?" Evie asks, looking at Amelie's tummy.
"Would you like me to lie to you, girl?" Amelie chuckles. "It's damn hard. Sometimes I feel like I have a crocodile inside me."
Evie laughs out loud at her cousin's statement.
"You scare me girl," she says. "You make me change my mind about having children in the future."
"Hey, I'm sure this little one deserves all these sacrifices," Amelie smiles and looks lovingly at her tummy. "I can't wait to see what this baby will be like. Girl or boy?"
"Did you think of the name?"
"Tommy and I talked about it all the time. We're actually arguing," Amelie rolls her eyes. "He has other name ideas and I have others."
"You will decide the the name in the end."
"It seems that things are so good between him and Heather that they got engaged," Amelie says with a bored face, changing the subject of the discussion.
"Oh, Am," Evie puts her hand on Amelie's arm. "I'm so sorry."
"Don't be," Amelie smiles weakly. "That's how was meant to be. After all, we are not so compatible. Looks like my baby is going to have a stepmother."
"Maybe you'll meet someone in the future and you'll be happy too," Evie grins.
"I hope so," Amelie smiles at her. "I hope you and Nikki are happy. At least you will be happy."
Evie smiles weakly. Yes, she wants her and Nikki's relationship to be perfect too. So far, everything is so good. But... she's been noticing strange behavior in him for a while. He seems to be hiding something. He's coming home late.
She should talk to him. Yes, that's for sure. She hopes it's not about what she thinks. Nikki promised not to do that again!
"Hey," Amelie makes her come back to reality. "You didn't tell me what happened at the auditions!"
Evie suddenly remembers that she had auditions sing yesterday. She took Nikki's advice into account. That of starting a career in pop music. And she took it so far that yesterday she went to auditions. Someone wants to make a young girl a star.
"It was good," she smiles. "I was told I would be contacted soon."
"Oh, that's good. I'm glad to hear that. I hope that after you become a pop star you won't forget your cousin," Amelie grins.
"How could I forget you? You're like my sister! And I will also not forget this little bundle of joy," says the brunette and looks at Amelies tummy.
Her cousin put her hands on the tummy, smiling. The expression on her face changes quickly and she exclaims:
"Oh, the baby is kicking!"
"No way! Can I feel it?"
"Of course!"
Evie carefully put her hand on Amelie's tummy and feels something move inside. It's such a weird feeling, but at the same time, so wonderful that there grows a little human being that she will meet in a few months.
"Aw, this little one seems so happy!" Evie almost cries of emotions. "Oh... I almost want to feel the same way."
"This can be easily solved. You know how," Amelie grins and shows her a sly look.
Evie looks at her cousin and chuckles, then looks at the tummy again with her hands still on it.
After a few hours...
Evie parks the car in front of the house. She gets out of it and walk down the path to the front door of the house. She knows Nikki is home. He was home when she left. She told him she was going to Amelie, but she came earlier. She opens the door and reaches the foyer where she takes off her shoes and looks around curiously. It's so quiet. Is Nikki asleep? Today he had a tiring day because he and his bandmates are recording a new album. So he's likely very tired.
She goes to the kitchen and prepares to call him, but it's too late. He's there in the kitchen. At the table. But what she sees... leaves her in a state of shock. Nikki is shooting cocaine on the kitchen table. It's the first time Evie has seen him do such a thing. The purse she holds in her hand falls on the floor. Evie is just too shocked by the scene in front of her.
He didn't even seem to hear her coming considering his astonished face. He gets up quickly from the table with a guilty look.
"Evie... I didn't know you were coming home earlier," he says anxiously.
"What... what are you doing?" Evie almost whispers the words, feeling stupefied and her heart beating fast.
He looks down at the table and touches it, scattering the white dust that reaches the floor.
"You're doing this for nothing! I saw what you were doing... How... I don't even know what to say... And even in the kitchen? You promised me... Nikki... You promised me!"
"I'm sorry..." Nikki approaches her and wants to take her in her arms. "Look Evie... It's not that easy..."
"I don't want to hear an apology!" Evie starts to get angry and takes a few steps back. "You are aware that this addiction can bring you to an end, right? You... you can die..."
"I know that," he sighs, stopping walking and looking down.
"You know I wish you to be fine..." Evie approaches him, Nikki looks up at her and sees that she has tears in her eyes. "I can help you... but you have to want it too."
"Okay... I'll try," Nikki sighs.
"No," Evie walks closer to him, their faces almost touching. "You have to succeed. I'm serious. It's not good what you're doing."
The brunette shifts her gaze to the table and the dust on the floor and says:
"Clean up here, please."
Nikki watches his girlfriend walk away from him and walks out of the kitchen with a sad look. He knows he upset her. He couldn't blame her, though. He doesn't like to admit it, but she's right. He knows that doesn't do him any good, and he still does. He must be able to get rid of this life-threatening addiction. He might even lose Evie. And he sees that this is already beginning to happen. He has to do this.
