Chapter 23

After one week...

Evie and Nikki visit Tommy today to see how he's doing. To check if Laura is okay. As they enter his house, they are led to little Laura's room. Inside, Evie and Nikki are surprised to see that Tommy's mother, Vasiliki, is in the room next to Tommy and Laura. It seems that little Laura cries constantly and both her father and grandmother do not know what to do.

Tommy tries to make her drink the bottle of milk, but the baby clenches her fists and cries harder and harder.

"Oh, what happened to her?" Evie asks and goes to Tommy, who is rocking the baby.

"Laura doesn't want to eat... All of a sudden," Vasiliki replies, worried about her granddaughter.

"But she hasn't had a hard time eating before, has she?" Evie asks, getting more and more concerned.

"No," Tommy says, looking at Laura, who is crying louder and louder. "I don't understand what's wrong with her."

"Poor child... She probably misses her mother," Tommy's mother says in a sad voice.

"Oh God," Evie sighs and looks sadly at the baby who keeps crying. "Can I try too?" Evie asks, holding out her hands to Laura.

Tommy gives his daughter in her arms and Evie starts rocking her, walking around the room with her. The brunette stops in front of the window, Laura seems to start crying less.

"Look, Laura," Evie says, pointing to the window. "It's so beautiful today. No need to cry, honey. Maybe later you'll go outside to get fresh air."

The baby stops crying and looks at Evie with her small mouth ajar, listening to her godmother's soft voice. Evie smiles gently and looks at Tommy and motions to give her the bottle. He does exactly that. Evie takes the bottle and finally someone feeds Laura after so many attempts.

"Wow," Tommy says to Evie, who continues to feed his daughter. "I've been trying to do this for an hour."

"Evie knows how to take care of children," Nikki says, looking proudly at his girlfriend.

Evie smiles at him, blushing slightly, then looks down at Laura, who finishes eating. The brunette picks her up and pats her on the back, the baby burps.

"Good girl," Evie says.

She sees that Laura looks sleepy. Most likely she is sleepy about how much she cried. She goes and puts her carefully in her crib. The crib mobile with the animals moves above, Laura looks at them lazily, her eyes close and she falls asleep.

Her grandmother approaches the crib and says with a smile:

"Τελικά τον πήρε ο ύπνος."*

Tommy and Nikki go to the crib and watch Laura sleep so peacefully.

"Laura really likes you," Tommy tells Evie.

"You will be a wonderful mother," says Vasiliki, smiling at the young woman.

"She sure will be," Nikki says, taking Evie's hand in his, staring into her eyes, smiling fondly.

"Man, you look at Evie like you want to have a baby with her right now," says Tommy.

Vasiliki puts a hand to her mouth and chuckles, as do Evie and Nikki.

"Oh damn it!" Tommy shouts and slaps his forehead. "I forgot, guys... I have to go get Heather and my mom has to go home. I didn't call you at all in a timely manner. I'm so sorry."

"Hey, it's okay," Evie says quickly. "Actually..." Her gaze shifts to the sleeping baby. "Nikki and I could take care of Laura until you get back."

"Oh, really?" Tommy stares at Evie and Nikki in amazement. "You don't have to do this..."
