My last spring break show ever was under wraps. Wow, I can't believe that this is the last one.
"Here's your water, man," Carter said.
"Thanks, and I have something to tell you," I confessed as I wiped the sweat from my forehead.
"Should I be worried?" Carter gave me a questioning glance.
"Oh, no, no, no." I corrected, taking a sip from my water bottle. "It's about Caroline."
"Maybe we should go back to the bus and talk then." Carter pitched his thumb in the direction of the buses.
"No, we shouldn't." I sighed and searched the crowd to see if she was still there. I spotted her walking out and I pointed. "Right there, Carter, look."
Carter turned in the direction I was pointing and gasped, "There is no way that is her. You just saw her in Nashville. She can't be here too."
"It is her. I can assure you! While I was singing 'Crash My Party', we locked eyes and held the gaze the whole song. It gave me chills, so I knew it had to be her."
"Go talk to her. You can't mess this up." Carter instructed me sternly.
"I was going to do that. What do you think that I'm stupid?" I joked.
I turned and looked back to where I had last seen Caroline. She wasn't there. I tossed my water bottle to Carter and ran into the crowd. Tons of people were trying to get my attention for a picture or an autograph, but most were screaming my name. I was oblivious to it all because I was focused on finding Caroline. Guess what? No luck on that.
I hobbled back to my bus to take a shower. My mind was buzzing again. Maybe that wasn't her after all. Maybe I was imagining it. All of those thoughts were washed down the drain along with soap as new ones emerged from the shower head with the warm water. It was a continuous cycle.
I reached for my towel and dried off my hair and then wiped down my body. Wrapping the towel around my waist, I went to my bedroom. The cold air hit me as I stepped out into the hallway.I shivered a little bit. Before I went to my room, I saw carter on his laptop on the couch.
"You are always on my bus. Why?"
Carter looked up from the laptop and smiled. "Because I love you, darling,." he said in a woman's voice.
"You sound ridiculous." I laughed.
I made my way back to my bedroom and dropped my towel. I began to lay out some shorts and a tee shirt. Oh, and what hat to wear? I only have like one hundred of them.
I knocked on the bus door. The door opened and there stood Carter.
"Caro-" He began to say, but I cut him off.
"Shh, Carter. I just need to set this where Luke can find it and then I'm gone. Do NOT tell him I was here. Just tell him it might have been here before."
All Carter did was nod and move to the side so I could go in.
"He's in the bedroom, by the way," Carter whispered.
I walked to the back of the bus. As I walked past the bathroom, I smelled Luke's shampoo. I breathed in the scent of it like it was a drug. I quickly walked past not wanting to form any unnecessary feelings. I stopped at his bedroom door to find it partially opened. I didn't see him so I opened the door a little more. I noticed a table beside the door. I placed the letter on the table and made it so Luke would obviously see it. As I set it down, I saw Luke's back towards me. He was laying clothes out. He was also naked. Good Lord he was naked. I could see his back muscles and arm muscles. Both of those could kill a woman. His ass wasn't too shabby either. Luke finished putting on his shirt and turned around. NOPE. I quickly turned on my feet and left. I wasn't having him see me or myself see his manhood.
I finished getting dressed and put a hat on. As I went to go outside, I noticed a letter on the table that wasn't there before. On the top was "Meet me on the set of 'Roller Coaster'" written in a woman's handwriting. I was going to take a walk there before to think about Caroline. That's where we spent our last spring break together.
I didn't even read the letter. I just zoomed past Carter and to the wooden structure that held so many memories. It took me about 10 minutes to walk from my bus to here. The sun was setting over the water which gave it an orange glow.
I looked around for someone to meet but saw no one. I sighed. I was pretty quick and I didn't even read the letter to see what time to meet this unknown person at. I walked over to the wooden structure and ran my fingers over Caroline and I's initials. A tingling warmth sensation ran through my body like someone had been here earlier. I decided to read the letter. I carefully ripped open its edges and began to read. By the end of it, I was in tears.
"Luke," I heard someone faintly whispered.
I turned around to be shocked. "Caroline?" I cried.
She nodded her head. I was baffled. I had no idea what to say. She stepped closer to me and I could smell her honey and lavender perfume. I didn't hold back any longer.
"I have missed you so dang much, Caroline. I have been miserable without you. I still love you so much."
I reached for her hand, brushing the strand of hair off her cheek as it slides ever so lightly past her ear. My thumb softly caressed her earlobe and my fingers were supporting the back of her head.I lean in and firmly place our lips together. I felt the passion from forever ago come back. I can feel her quickly inhale pulling the air from my own lungs. I pull her body closer and embrace her holding her tightly against me feeling the race of our hearts as one.
"I still love you too, Luke" She whispered. "But, I can't stay."
I held her closer than ever not wanting to let her go again.
She shook her head. "I just can't. Just know that I still love you. Please don't suffer just for me."
Caroline loosened from my hug and stepped back. I saw a tear gently roll down her rosy cheeks.
"Please don't go again. I don't know if I can live without you. Whatever the reason is, we can work through it. I promise." I begged feeling a huge pang of disappointment in my heart.
"I can't..." She cried.
I pulled her into me once more. "I'll leave tickets at every damn show for you. I can't let this be the last time I see you, Caroline. I know too damn well it will push me over into an even worse depression. Can you at least come to some of my shows?"
"I don't know."
And with that, she let go and started to walk off. I just stayed in the same spot trying to remember the kiss that I thought would start a new beginning. I tried remembering the look in her eyes as she said 'I love you.'. I wanted nothing more than to run after her. Maybe she would change her mind after that. But, I respected her wishes. Besides, my legs couldn't bring themselves to move.
A/N: So Caroline saw Luke naked. Woah, woah, woah. What do you think the letter said? Should Luke have run after her? Will Caroline go to any of his shows?
