"you play any sports?"nika asked looking over at peyton. peyton and nika were currently sitting in peyton's new apartment. peyton texted paige asking her to help move her into her apartment but paige didn't respond quick enough. so peyton took the chance to text and ask nika and of course nika said yes. so here they are currently unpacking boxes in peyton's room.
"i played soccer at my old school i wanted to play here but i have no clue when tryouts are."peyton shrugged throwing the rest of her clothes in her dresser. nika huffed before walking over to her dresser and taking the clothes back out and sitting on the ground beside them. "you're literally over 6 feet and you don't play basketball?"nika chuckled and began folding her clothes.
peyton smiled watching her and sitting down in front of her. "i did in high school but i didn't really get a scholarship in it. all the recruiters were really only looking at paige so i decided to fall back. but my sophomore year in college i decided to try out for the soccer team and made it."peyton said grabbing clothes as well and started folding them too. "were you on the starting rosters?"nika asked looking up at peyton.
"my first year no, but last year yes. i had to work hard though, sophomore year i was a sub for one of the starters who was out like majority of the season from a torn acl and i guess that's when the coach started noticing my talents and put me as a starter last year"peyton shrugged folding a pair of sweatpants. "what position did you play?"nika asked. "center forward mainly because of my height"peyton said.
"well i think you should try out, we have a really good soccer team and i think they'd love you."nika smiled looking back down at the clothes. "you think so?"peyton smiled looking up at nika. "of course, i'll even go with you to talk to the coach. coach mota loves me."nika smiled looking back at peyton sticking her tongue out at her. peyton laughed folding the last bit of her clothes before standing up and dramatically stretching.
"you're so dramatic"nika laughed standing up as well. peyton laughed again walking over to her bed and flopping down. nika walked over and flopping beside her, so they were both laying on their backs staring up at the ceiling. "tell me about yourself"peyton broke the silence. "i've played many different sports growing up but i realized that i wanted to focus on basketball so i started playing club basketball and doing wnba camps"nika started.
"croatia was and still is really is small, so a lot of scouts didn't really look in that area. i had lost all hope for basketball, watching other girls from other countries get drafted really took a jab at my confidence. but i was really shocked when i came home from school one day and seen geno literally sitting in my living room. i didn't know who he was i just knew that there was a random italian man sitting in my living room. once he started talking i realized who he was and i was beyond happy."nika smiled looking at peyton and then back at the roof.
"when i was told i was getting a chance to go on a official college visit here i was happy but always scared because i had never been so far away from home. i hardly knew english and when i finally started learning english my accent was still really heavy so a lot of people couldn't really understand what i was saying."nika continued. "i can still hear it"peyton laughed hearing her accent come out when she pronounced certain words. nika laughed and continued to talk.
"when i finally got my scholarship i was literally scared of everyone. your cousin really scared me because she has a resting bitch face. like she has a natural mug on her face. i honestly thought she was a bitch until one day she decided she wanted to partner up with me at practice and started talking my ears off."nika finished, laughing. "wow"is all peyton said looking over at nika. "your back story is so cool"peyton joked poking nika's exposed stomach.
nika chuckled, feeling her cheeks heat up. "not as cool as yours"nika teased. "i barley told you anything"peyton laughed looking at nika. "you told me enough. let's save the rest for another time"nika winked and watched peyton's cheeks turn red.
