He didn't know what he did to upset her so much so Tony let her go. As much as he wanted to help the young woman, if she didn't want it then he wouldn't force her to stay. Knowing that Fury would have agents following her he waited until the elevator doors closed and then he called Happy. "Hey, the girl that's coming down, she was the one we rescued the other day. She's in bad shape but I can't force her to get medical attention if she refuses. Make sure she gets all the way home safe."

"You got it, boss. You want me to keep tabs on her for a few days to make sure she's alright?"

Sighing as he thinks it over Tony rubs a hand through his hair messing it up. They really needed to talk to her and soon about her time with Hydra to find out why they took her. Evangeline Madsen was a nobody in terms of who she was on paper. No, that didn't sound right. She wasn't a nobody. She was one of the top leading biomedical engineers in her field. It's just that it hasn't made sense as to why they'd kidnapped her and kept her locked up for almost two years. He didn't recognize her when he first saw her, but after having JARVIS run facial recognition on missing persons in the way home he remembered that he had been trying to recruit her for years. Tony also remembered hearing that she'd either taken off or was taken on the news a couple years back, but hadn't heard anything about her until three days ago.

"I'll get Maria on it. I need you for something else." He tells Happy who acquiesces and hangs up, telling him she had arrived downstairs. Tony would have preferred someone he was close to watching her, but Hap had no skills at being stealthy. Sending a message via JARVIS to Maria that Madsen had taken off, he sat down on the couch and stared out the window thinking about what it was he could have said or done to set her off.

A few minutes later an irate Steve and Dr Thompson come storming into his living room. The good doctor started ranting and waving her finger in his face the moment her gaze landed on him. "Did you really let that girl leave, Stark? She was barely able to walk. Not to mention, there are protocols in place that I have to follow before I can release someone from my care."

He interrupts her lecture not in the mood to be chastised right now. "First, I had Happy take her home so she's safe. She wanted to leave and I wasn't going to stop her. You didn't see the freak out she had when she thought we were going to keep her here against her will. And second, Maria is already on top of it. Gonna have her watched just in case she is still a target for Hydra. Now, if you don't mind, I'd like to be alone."

He stood up and ran his hands over his face. God he was tired. He hadn't had much sleep lately with the nightmares happening again. All he wanted was a glass of Scotch and to go to bed since Pep was gone for the next few days. He was headed to the bar when Rogers called out to him.

"Tony, there's something else." Turning back to look at Steve he motions for him to continue. Sharing a glance with the doctor he hedges out, "Sylvia ran a blood panel when Evangeline first arrived."

"Yeah that's standard protocol. I know, so what?" He crossed his arms waiting for what they were hedging around. If someone could get to the point in the relative future so they could leave him alone, that'd be just dandy.

Seeing that Tony was starting to be in a mood, Sylvia spoke up, drawing his attention. "It's what I found that wasn't standard. She was given a serum similar to Steve's." At his raised brows she tacked on, "But there's more."

Tony could see she was hesitant to say whatever it is so he looked over to Steve with his brow still raised. Taking a few steps forward the other man just spit it out. "She's your kid, Tony."

Wait what?

His mind completely blanked for a moment before it rebooted. "Not possible. I don't have any kids and if I did, I would have had her mother at my door with her hand out a long time ago. Believe me, Rogers, I've had a few women over the years try to pull that on me. Your test is wrong, Doc." Striding over to the bar he was now most definitely in desperate need of that Scotch more than ever.
