Getting a text from Tony on her way to the Tower that he was going to have to miss their lunch was disappointing. He of course had no choice because he was still on his mission from the day before. It had turned into some kind of press thing that he dealt with since he was more comfortable out of the team with speaking to reporters. Tony told her to still head over and meet with Pepper. Like it wasn't going to be awkward as fuck without the one person they had in common. Sighing Evie figuratively pulled up her big girl panties and walked into the Avengers Tower.

Striding over to the front desk she waited her turn to speak to someone. After a few minutes she was waved over by a nice man named John. "Welcome to The Avengers Tower and Stark Industries New York office. How may I help you today?"

Giving him a shy smile she told him her name. "Hi, I'm Evangline Madsen. I'm here to meet with Pepper Potts, originally it was Tony but he just informed me he's still out of town." She was rambling. She knew that, but she was nervous.

"Alrighty, give me one second to call Ms Potts to let her know you're here." Nodding she glanced around the lobby while John called up.

"Evie, hey." Turning around she saw Steve carrying a couple bags of groceries. "Here for your lunch with Pep and your dad?" His eyes widened at his slip up, but she waved him off.

"Yeah, but he's still out so it's just me and Pepper. Not gonna lie, kind of nervous cause she doesn't like me." She tucked a the loose hair from her bun behind her ears. A nervous gesture she's never been able to shake.

He glances behind her. "Hey, John, I got her. Wanna let the others know she'll be a regular visitor? Thanks." The man behind the desk had to take her picture real quick so he could have a permanent ID badge made up by the time she is done with her visit.

Following Steve to the elevator she presses the call button for him. "So what makes you think Pepper doesn't like you? I'm sure that's not true."

Raising an eyebrow at him she tells him flat out. "I overheard her yelling at Tony the other morning that she thinks I'm dangerous and he was lucky I didn't kill him in his sleep." The look on his face was priceless.

Clearing his throat he gave her a strained smile. "I'm sure she'll change her opinion once she really gets to know you."

"Yeah maybe, but not everyone's as optimistic as you are, Spangles. It's not just what Hydra did to me. I'm sure she's none too pleased that Tony's undoing what Obadiah did to cut me off. I don't even want his money or his company. I never envisioned that one day Stark Industries would be mine by right. She's worked her ass off to get where she is and here I come along out of the blue..." Shaking her head she sighs as she leaned back against the glass wall of the elevator.

"True, but even so we've all gone through bad things. It's how we come out of it that defines who we are. You're a good person Evie. Pepper will see that in the end and will come to love you as much as the rest of us do." How did he always know what to say to make you feel better? It was like he was a walking talking red, white and blue advice giver.

"That's not strictly true. I really only know you, Tony, Bucky and Sam and Bird boy doesn't exactly 'love' me." She smirks up at him.

"He might if you stopped calling him Bird boy." He says tilting his head down and giving her the look. It almost works on her, but she was made of sterner stuff.

"Never! He had been dubbed Bird boy and shall henceforth always be known as Bird boy. That is until I come up with a better nickname." He rolled his ocean blue eyes at her dramatics thinking to himself that she was just like Tony. Her exclamation startles him a bit. "Oooh, pigeon! Yes, I can't wait to see his face. Don't you give it away, Steven Rogers!" Laughing Evie does a little shuffle dance of excitement.
