The sound of her bedroom door lock clicking into place had Bucky jumping a little from where he was standing by the window looking down at the street. Was he seriously nervous to be in her childhood bedroom, all alone with her? It was strange to her that he'd never actually been in her room before. He never felt comfortable when he came over mainly because of her father but also because they usually had Steve with them to stay in compliance with Fury's limits. Chuckling, Evie kicked off her shoes and walked over to set her bags on the bench at the end of her bed. Looking around the room she tried to see it through Bucky's eyes. It was a fairly large room that's walls used to be covered in band posters. Where they once hung were now drawings of Bucky's new arm and other designs for the limbs she was hoping to one day build. The black wrought iron queen sized bed she'd had since middle school was centered along one wall made up in simple white and cream bedding with a few throw pillows to make it more cozy.
The shelf above the bed is filled with a row of small green plants that Sten insisted she have because 'plants protomed happiness'. The sight of them made her smile because he had come into her room a few days after she'd finally come home, arms full of small seedlings and a bag of pots. He had gone on and on about the research he'd done the night before about them. “Not only do indoor plants enhance the overall appearance of a space, but studies show they boost moods, increase creativity, reduce stress, and eliminate air pollutants making for a healthier, happier person. Indoor plants don't just look good, they can make us feel good, too.”
Laughing as she finished up with repotting one of the seedlings she handed it to Sten as she moved on to the next one. “Why do you sound like you're quoting the internet?”
“Because I am quoting the internet. That's besides the point, E. These will help you.” He sets the first few up on the shelf that used to house her awards from high school. “I've got a whole list of stuff that we can do that has been proven to help people who–”
His words had cut off when his throat clogged with emotion. She understood exactly what he meant. People like her who had gone through traumatic experiences. Setting the pot down she opened her arms for him to walk into, wrapping him up into a tight hug Evie and Sten comforted each other. Her brother was an amazing person inside and out. Sten Madsen was the type of person to go above and beyond for you. Always there for you no matter what was going on in his life just so that you wouldn't have to go through whatever it was alone. So while he had pulled back recently as she gained back her self confidence to stand on her own two feet, he was still there for Evie in all the ways that she would allow.
Daily funny notes pinned to the fridge or a joking text if she spent the night at the Tower with Bucky. He would send her links that he found on people who also had PTSD and been kidnapped, about how they felt about being back in the 'normal' world and how they dealt with how people now treated them like they would break or explode. He also sent her a million Vines to just make her laugh. It was a balance he said. That while he wanted her to be informed, he also wanted her to be able to find some kind of joy in the ridiculous.
“This both looks how I thought your room would be and not.” Bucky’s amused tone pulled Evie from her thoughts. “It just doesn't look very much like a young teenage girl's bedroom is what I mean." He laughs a little as he trails his metal fingers along her very organized and clutter-free desk that had him in mind of Tony. The two were very similar in the way they were extremely anal when it came to organization. Meaning they might be messy while working, but the second they were done everything had to be put back in its place.
His light blue eyes roam over pictures of Evie and her mother as well as some pictures from when she and Sten were younger. Also hung up above her desk were all of her degrees. It never ceased to amaze him how incredibly smart she was. He could see that everyday in the conversations she had with Tony, Bruce, Thor and the other members of the research and development team that usually went way over his head. Just like he could see it as far back to the night they met in how even in the face of fear her big brain couldn’t shut off at the sight of his arm.
