Truce

Bucky and Tony had made Evie get checked out at the hospital even though she told them she was fine. The doctor confirmed that whatever sedative Rumlow had used was already out of her system and that the bruises would go away in about a week or two and released her. Even though she was cleared Bucky insisted on taking her home to make sure she got there this time unscathed. Begrudgingly she invited them all to come along.

Showing up to her grandparents house with four Avengers in tow had Sten practically fainting. He'd met Steve several times over those first few weeks when she first came home and had met Tony that one time on her birthday, but it was like the first time for him all over again. Honestly it was cute, but a little embarrassing. Sten really wanted to side with his sister, but Tony Stark was Iron Man. He didn't really know much about Sam, but he knew all about Bucky. Evie and Steve had talked about him alot.

While her brother fangirled over them all Evie explained to her grandparents what happened to her. They were shocked, but happy that she was able to take care of herself. Once they got to talking Bucky had told them that it wasn't long after he had left her that the four of them showed up. Having the serum had her metabolism burning through the sedative quickly. It had been less than an hour before the guys showed up hoping to stop them from whatever it was they were here to do. They wouldn't tell her what. Apparently it was top secret...she'd find out sooner or later. She had a feeling Sam was a talker.

Mikkel and Ana Madsen were just happy that she was home safe. They of course knew who Tony and Steve were and had briefly heard about Bucky. Sam was new to everyone, but they liked him well enough. They invited everyone to stay for dinner, even Tony. Staying as far away from him as she could Evie sat between her Opa and Bucky. Once she calmed down enough to not want to stab Sam in the face she found him to be funny and kind of charming much to Bucky's annoyance.

The conversation flowed well with lots of talk about previous missions. Her Opa even got a story or two out of Steve and Bucky about the war. Much laughter, easy conversation and good food was always a recipe for a happy atmosphere. Once everyone was done with dessert her Oma declared that Evie and Tony were on dish duty. Sten tried to take her place, but he got 'the look' and was sent to the living room with Steve and the others.

"After a good meal one can always forgive anyone, even a relative." She said handing Evie a stack of plates. Shooing them into the kitchen she went to be a good hostess.

Giving Tony a glare Evie stalked over to the sink and began filling it with hot soapy water to wash them by hand. Her grandma didn't like dishwashers. She called them the lazy man's convenience. Evie knew what her grandma was doing and she didn't like or appreciate being forced into a room alone with him.

Tony came in with the rest of the dishes and silverware. He started cleaning off the scraps into the trash then brought them over and began to rinse off the soapy dishes and set them in the drying rack. They worked in strained silence; occasionally he would glance at her, but she studiously ignored him until she couldn't stand it anymore. Setting down the pan she was washing she placed her soapy hands on the edge of the sink and let out a deep sigh. Tony warily looked over at her unsure what to say or do so he waited.

"Say I believe you. That everything you told me today was true and you're as much a victim as I was being kept from each other. That doesn't mean you can force me into forgetting everything I went through for two years and we'll be all cool."

"I wouldn't expect us to be. I know I'll have to earn your trust, Evangeline. I just want to get to know you. I want to be in your life however you'll let me." He softly told her, rinsing off the plate in his hand.

Setting it in the drying rack he turned to face her propping his hip against the counter. "Just so you know, I didn't tell Wilson or anyone else that you're my kid because I wanted to give you your privacy. If you want me to, I'll tell the whole world. Because believe me I want to. You're an amazing young woman who is incredibly smart, fierce and a little scary."
