He ran to catch up with her. "Hello again." She rolled her eyes and moved away. 

"Please go away, I'm working." She typed away furiously. "I'm tutoring this kid, alright?"

"Ah, a smart girl then. Beautiful, smart, independent-"

"Please be quiet!" she shouted. Someone in an apartment on the dark street shushed her. "Sorry!" 

He pulled out a small sketchbook and glanced over at her as they walked under the warm streetlight. She caught his eye as he looked at her. 

"What on earth are you doing?"

"Hey, nothing, I'm not gonna look at your work, you don't look at mine alright?" He pulled his pages close to himself. 

God, what was happening to him? He didn't have any use for romantic moonlight walks, reciting romantic poetry. This whole 'love at first sight' thing was for suckers... orr I guess it used to be. Because girls were nice, every now and again, maybe once or twice, until he found someone else, someone new. But he'd never met anyone like her.

He was a player, she knew that much. He'd never stayed with one girl for long. But he was sweet and romantic, witty and clever, and from what she could see of that book? He was a brilliant artist. But she wasn't ready to do that again. 

That awful guy'd come knocking on her door again, never giving up, even though he was less than unwelcome. She should've known he was trash, the night he stole her heat as well as forty bucks. Because her boyfriend had just been some lazy piece of shit. Because love isn't blind, it's dumb. He'd never told her the truth, or worked at all, he was just revolting. She'd gotten tired of it all, so she'd slammed the door in his face. 

She didn't want to have to go through something like that again. She'd promised herself that she'd never let herself go through that again. But she'd never met anyone like him.
