Enjoy :)
It had been quiet for a long time. And quiet wasn't something Bruce was used to.
It was like everyone was holding their breath, waiting for the timer on the bomb to reach zero. Emotions were higher than ever, and emotions weren't something he particularly enjoyed.
So he put all of his focus into monitoring Thor. After Thor used the scepter, everyone moved into Loki's room. The equipment needed to monitor the gods was set up, so Tony and Bruce remained at the desk, keeping an eye on everything. Clint and Natasha stood on the other side of the room. They talked to one another quietly while eyeing Loki and Thor every once in a while.
And Steve was pacing the room, obviously trapped in his thoughts. He had almost gone over to talk with him a few times but decided he'd rather not. Getting deep and emotional with everyone else in the room wasn't what he needed.
"Goddamnit, Rogers, you're going to give me a heart attack if you keep pacing," Tony finally said, breaking through the quiet.
Steve finally stopped, looked at Tony, and then walked over to the cell, placing a hand on the glass.
"Are you sure Thor's supposed to be like that?" Steve asked, concerned.
Ever since Thor had used the scepter he had frozen in that position, standing over Loki holding the scepter to his chest. It was kind of creepy, but at least Thor's eyes were closed. They all probably would be even more on edge seeing his eyes remaining open without blinking for hours.
"For the hundredth damn time, Thor is fine," Tony responded, even more annoyed.
Suddenly, the computer started to beep, and Bruce immediately looked at it to see what the problem was. It seemed everyone had the same idea, as when he glanced up, everyone was surrounding him.
"What's wrong? Is Thor okay?" Steve asked.
"He's fine, Rogers. His heart rate just increased a little," Tony said after glancing over the computer, "I think everyone needs to tone it down with the edginess a little."
"A powerful god who could crush every person on this planet just went into the mind of another god who could also crush every person on this planet. I think us being on edge is fucking warranted," Clint said.
"Maybe so, but I'm assuming Brucie here doesn't appreciate it."
Everyone looked over at him, and Bruce became even more uncomfortable somehow.
"I think we'd all appreciate it if you quit the comments, Tony," Steve said.
"Just trying to lighten the mood. None of us will be any good if we react to every movement," Tony responded, standing up and walking towards the group.
"I disagree. Being on edge can be good. That means we are prepared."
"That's the most Captain America thing I've ever heard. How about you cut the bullshit and be honest."
"Honest about what?"
"That you are just as uncomfortable as the rest of us."
The computer beeped, unnoticed by anyone.
"Of course I'm uncomfortable! My friend is in there risking his life to face a threat that we know nothing about. We can't help him or provide any support. All we can do is sit here and watch. I can't believe we went through with this. I should be the one in there," said Steve angrily.
