There was a distant yelp and a light laugh that followed.

"Beth, stop freezing Peter!"

Beep.

Beth's hands shook causing the phone in her hand to tap against her ear. She was sitting on the dock of the lake house. Her bare feet brushed against the water, pushing and pulling against her powers.

She inhaled deeply, "Hey, Dad. We've been home for a few days now and things feel good. Mom got me a therapist and I'm trying. I'm really trying to be okay again. But sometimes I just miss you so much."

Beth looked down to her free hand, fiddling with the new ring on her finger. "Peter gave me a ring— and before you go rolling in your grave, no it is not what you think it is. We both know we're too young for that."

She pressed down on the sapphire gem and spun it clockwise. Nanotech crawled up her arm forming a replica of her dad's repulsors from his suit. The colors were changed to a sleek light blue and white.

"I don't think I can have anything around my wrists for a while but those repulsors did come in handy when I didn't have my powers. So Peter gave me a ring made with some nanotech built into it. It's got another feature too but I haven't needed to use it yet."

The repulsor retracted back into its original form of a ring and she rested her hand in her lap. The other feature Peter added was something like an SOS signal. If she pressed on the sapphire and spun it counterclockwise, it would send an alert to Peter's suit and his phone. He had built one into his web-shooters to send a signal to her. It was only in case of emergencies.

It helped calmed her when she thought about how helpless she felt when she saw Peter get hit by that train. Not knowing whether or not he was alive.

She sat there in silence, staring off into the distance. Only the sound of her breathing and the birds chirping kept her company.

"I miss you, but I'll make you proud. I promise."

Beth turned around, hanging up the phone when she heard someone approaching. Peter stood a few feet away from her. His hands were tucked into the pockets of his sweatshirt. Beth smiled brightly at him causing him to grin back at her.

She took his hand he offered and pulled herself up. "You didn't have to come all the way out here you know," she said. They walked side by side, their hands joined between them.

"I know but it's a bit of a drive back into the city and I didn't want you to be alone."

Beth stopped walking, causing Peter to halt with her. She stepped forward, planting a soft kiss on his cheek.

    "Thank you."

She continued walking, dragging him along with her. She didn't turn back to see his face flush bright red.

For the time being Reyna was staying in her second bedroom in her apartment. The fire-powered girl already waiting for her when she got back to her apartment.

Peter and Beth slipped through the front door, shutting it behind them. Reyna was in the kitchen, whipping up some sandwiches for the three of them.
