July 20th, 2020 was the day that Mon-El was forced to leave Earth, the day when all the Daxamites had to retreat from their invasion attempt. The day the world was almost taken from everyone.
Today, January 20th, 2021 marks 6 months in which Mon-El has been gone, 6 months since Kara lost the love of her life. 6 months since Deja 'betrayed' her bestfriend.
Kara barely has spoken to anyone since her boyfriend had to leave. Hello's and Bye's, short conversations and avoiding them. Preoccupying her time with being Super and not being Kara Danvers.
Her work as being a Reporter began to fall, after Lena bought CatCo from Cat Grant for Kara, she began to avoid being at work as much as possible. Leaving to go stop miscellaneous crimes that NCPD could handle, not being at work meetings, bailing out on game nights. Her life as Kara Danvers began to fall.
She crashed through the roof of a warehouse and landed on the ground with a loud thud just as a police officer came in as well.
Without warning rapid gunfire could be heard, because of her bulletproof skin she hardly even noticed the bullets hitting her. She dashed to the police officer and shielded him with her body.
"You can't save them all." The man said. "You move any inch, I'll press this button and this whole place blows and three city blocks."
Kara gave him a smirk.
Suddenly the man behind her started to groan in pain as he kneeled down to his knees as blood began to pour out of his abdomen. The man with the bomb began to flee.
She contemplated if she should chase after him or stay and help the police officer behind her, her conscious got the better of her as she picked up the officer and flew him to the hospital.
When she returned to the warehouse she got a better look at the item that was hidden and figured out it was a Daxamite ship that was being picked apart. Most likely for a diabolical plan.
She flew off into space to try to listen for an signs of the guy who was just there.
_______________________________________National City, Water Front
"Anything unusual?" Alex questioned over comms.
"Nothing." Renee said.
"Are you sure it's going to happen here?" Deja questioned. "We've been chasing this guy for weeks and nothing has turned up."
"Exactly what the sources say." Sara stated.
"And these... sources... are they liable?" Luke asked.
"Why wouldn't they be?" Sara retorted.
"Thank you, everyone, for being here." Lena Luthor said on the podium as she spoke through the mic. "I know, it's a cold day in hell when a Luthor is praising heroes, nonetheless a Kryptonian,"
"These heroes have taught me a lot in this past year, they've inspired me and even when the whole world could've turned away on me, they were there. So, I thank them and to show them, I wanted to be the one to show this statue,"
As Lena said the last few words the cover over the statue was pulled back and the four prime heroes of the Earth Defender's were on it in silver.
"The four prime heroes. Wonder Girl, Supergirl, BatWing, and Kid Flash. They stopped two invasions in a year and reduced crime in National City. We, as citizens of National City o-"
Before Lena could finish her sentence a loud boom could be heard, Earth Defender's began to move around the area and help everyone who was there to get to safety.
"Does anyone have a view?" Deja asked as she hovered above the Water Front. "I can't see anything irregular."
"On the ground. Nothing." Dinah stated as she helped a few people get away.
Just then a sonic boom could be heard and then a splash in the water.
"The hell was that?" Wally asked.
"Supergirl." Deja answered.
Seconds later Kara was holding a giant submarine that she pulled from out of the water. Deja noticed the emotionless face that Kara wore most of the time now, haven't seen her smile in months.
Kara placed the submarine down at an open area for Earth Defender's to grab up the bad guys who controlled it, fans wanted to meet her but she flew off, ignoring everyone who was calling out to her.
_______________________________________The Tower
Kara flew into The Tower, a place she hasn't been since the day Mon-El left.
"I can give you all a quick debrief on the guy who orchestrated the entire plan." Kara stated while avoiding eye contact as she walked towards the monitor. "His name is Richard Dobai, formerly a Russian emissary and US military marksman. He was stealing from a Daxamite ship that was abandoned, I've recently been scouring the planet for more of them ever since and I found a total of sixteen abandoned ships. Luckily those were not picked apart. They now sit in the Fortress of Solitude."
"Thank you," Deja said as Kara began to walk towards the balcony doors. "We'd like if you stayed a little. I haven't actually spoken to you since he left..."
Kara stopped in her tracks and turned her head to the side as if she was thinking about staying but even from the side, Deja could see the pure rage that set onto her face.
Without another word Supergirl flew out of the Tower.
Deja gave a sigh of disappointment.
"So, how much time are we supposed to give her? It's been six months." Alex stated.
Deja let out a huff of breath. "Grief doesn't have a expiration date."
"It doesn't," Sara said. "But at what point is it still grief and not.. obsession?"
Deja answered a call on her phone and walked off without saying a word to anyone.
________________________________________CatCo
Kara walked into James Olsen office, Cat Grants old office. She readjusted her glasses as she just got back from stopping mayhem in Belgium.
"Yes?" She asked as she came face to face to James.
"You have a deadline which is coming up in a few minutes." James stated.
Kara gave a smile of irritation and disbelief. "So, you used that watch to talk to me about a deadline? That is only for emergencies, James."
"Is this not a work related emergency?"
"No!" Kara yelled. "I was saving lives, James. Helping people who actually need help, a stupid deadline never trumps that."
"I beg to differ." James retorted. "You haven't been doing your job as Kara Danvers lately and the news supports that. I've been pulling strings recently just so you won't get fired because you're never here."
Kara inhaled deeply. "Maybe they should fire me. My life as Kara Danvers is not entertaining anymore and quite frankly I'm just not interested in her anymore."
"Kara, what are you saying?"
"I quit."
