I slammed my locker shut. "They what?!" I shrieked.
She nervously giggled and played with her fingers, staring down at the floor. "So it was meant like that.."
"Of course it was meant like that, Aph!" I exclaimed, throwing my arms up in the air. "Did you not hear the way they talked to you on the first day of school?!"
"I'm pretty sure they all use she/her pronouns but- Yeah! I was just hoping they were joking, you know?" She pouted, still hanging her head.
I sighed and stepped closer to her. "Yeah, I get that." I pulled her into a side hug and rubbed her arm. "And I'm pretty sure most people at this school are cis anyways, but I don't like to assume."
"I think if you just introduce yourself with your pronouns like you usually do then they'll do the same, and if not, you can just ask."
I nodded. "Yeah, alright."
"You're really ahead of your time anyways, Lauren."
I chuckled a bit and squeezed her gently. "Yeah yeah, I know." I sighed. "And if you ever want me to kick Ivy's ass, all you have to do is-"
"Lauren! No fighting!" She scolded playfully and I just rolled my eyes with a small smile before we started walking to our homeroom.
"So how was babysitting last night?" She asked, not wanting to walk in silence I guess.
"It was fine, one of the kids had a tantrum though."
"Really? What about?"
"I told him that it was peas on his plate, not corn."
"Eh-" She seemed dumbfounded when I glanced at her. "Really?"
"Yeah. I don't know why." I responded as I walked through the doors and took my seat just as the bell went off.
Aphmau took her seat and looked over to Travis' empty spot. "Travis isn't here? Uhhh... Awwh... This is a wrong time for a selfie but- I don't know, maybe it'll help me feel better?" There was a camera flash and a shutter noise. "Ugh, that only made me feel worse! Hopefully Travis hasn't transferred out of this classroom, then we won't have- Wait! That's right! FC!"
'Is that her online friend? Well if she's just gonna be texting then-'
"I'm gonna go talk around again." I said, but she didn't seem to hear me. I shrugged and stood up, going over to Zane's desk again and leaning down.
"Hey edge lord."
"What do you want, Feathera?"
I pouted. "Aw, you can call me by my first name."
"I'd rather not."
I hummed in dissatisfaction. "Are you always this rude to your friends?"
"I'm not your friend." He snapped, glaring up at me.
"You could be." I smiled.
"Okay, valley girl," He started, almost spitting out the words.
I was taken slightly aback, almost offended. 'Valley girl?! Do I sound like one?!'
"I don't need, nor want you as my friend, understood?" He continued with a sneer.
"I didn't understand a single word in that sentence." I smirked and leaned down a bit closer to his face as he slammed his book shut.
"Why me, huh?"
"Because I feel like I might be able to understand you more than you think I do."
