Episode 26

Haoxiang walked into a local starbucks café and ordered some coffee. It wasn’t the best option on the warm afternoon, but the smell of the coffee somehow had a calming effect on him. He looked outside the window and sipped his coffee slowly.

After he look away from the window, he noticed another boy sitting in the corner of the café alone. He looked as lonely as Haoxiang did. Haoxiang ignored him and continued to look outside the window.

A moment later, Haoxiang saw someone sit opposite him. It was the same boy who was sitting in the corner of the café. Haoxiang recognized him as Zhang Zhenyuan, his schoolmate who was hardly on campus. But he knew for sure that Zhenyuan did not recognize him – he was not as popular as Zhenyuan anyway.

‘Hi,’ Zhenyuan greeted him.

‘Oh hey.’ Haoxiang answered lowly.

‘I just noticed you sitting alone so I thought it would be cool to sit with you, you look as heartbroken as I am.’ Zhenyuan sighed.

‘Heartbroken?’ Haoxiang asked him. ‘How did you know?’

‘It’s not hard to spot a heartbroken person. You’re hardly sipping your coffee and you keep looking out the window, it’s obvious you’re in deep thought.’ Zhenyuan said. ‘Want to share?’

‘I…uh…’ Haoxiang stammered, not knowing whether he could trust Zhenyuan or not. But then again, Zhenyuan probably didn’t care about school gossip. There was no problem in telling him. ‘Well I liked someone and they told me they like me and that I’m worth loving but now they’ve just switched up.’

‘Oh,’ Zhenyuan nodded. ‘I guess that’s people for you, they always change.’

‘Yeah,’ Haoxiang looked down. ‘What about you? You said you’re heartbroken as well.’

‘Oh, I think my long-term boyfriend is cheating on me.’

‘What?’ Haoxiang tried to act surprised, but he also was because he didn’t know that Zhenyuan knew about Jiaqi and Chengxin’s affair. ‘Oh I’m really sorry. But you’re not sure are you?’

‘My hunch just tells me so, and my hunch is never wrong.’ Zhenyuan sighed.

‘Then I wish I had a hunch, I would have knowed that the guy I like doesn’t like me back.’

‘It’s a guy? You’re gay?’ Zhenyuan asked in surprise.

Haoxiang face palmed, not knowing he had admitted it. ‘Yeah I guess.’

‘I am too.’

Haoxiang knew that, but then he suddenly got an idea. What if he could make Yaowen jealous using Zhenyuan? He put his cellphone at a camera countdown, and placed it next to his coffee mug facing them.

‘What are you doin…?’ Zhenyuan started to ask, but his words were cut short when Haoxiang kissed him.

Haoxiang’s camera took a photo of the two of them kissing, before Zhenyuan pulled away.

‘What the hell dude?’ Zhenyuan asked Haoxiang with surprise and anger.

‘I thought you said your boyfriend is cheating on you, I was just trying to help.’ Haoxiang answered innocently.

‘But not like that!’ Zhenyuan got up from the chair opposite Haoxiang. ‘I know he’s cheating but it doesn’t mean I want to cheat on him too.’

‘I’m sorry.’ Haoxiang answered.

Zhenyuan shook his head and simply walked away. But Haoxiang was content. As long as he had the picture, he was fine. Now he could make Yaowen jealous. He sent the picture to Junlin, whom he knew would tell the rest of his friends.
