Discharge Day

Nat- good morning!
Gabby- good morning
Nat- are you excited for today?
Gabby- ya but ner-ous
Nat- you'll be ok, you've got so many people to help you
Gabby- I know
Nat- plus, you'll be back here almost everyday for therapy and you can call us if you need anything. Speaking of which, you don't have therapy today but Janet's coming to the house in the afternoon to make sure you're all good
Gabby- ok
Nat- do you want to eat something?
Gabby- ya
Nat- ok, I'll ask April to get one of your yogurts while I get you ready. What are you wearing today?
I pick an outfit and Nat gets me dressed and puts my braces on then April shows up so the 2 of them get me in my chair. Nat gets paged and has to leave so April feeds me then finishes getting me ready. Then she brought me to say bye to everyone, a bit later Antonio showed up to take me home. Matt was home with Shay, he'd kept her home from daycare for the day.

Antonio brought me inside where I was greeted by a very excited Shay running at me. We had a quiet morning, I didn't want everyone coming over on my first day home, it was overwhelming enough. Shay snuggled on my lap while we watched a movie. Then Antonio gave me all my meds and set up my feed, Shay climbed back on my lap as soon as Antonio was done. Shay fell asleep and I told Antonio to leave her. After half an hour I noticed I was wet.
Gabby- Tonio
Antonio- ya? Do you want me to move Shay?
Gabby- ya. I'm wet
Antonio- did she pee on you?
Gabby- I don't know just wet
He's probably right, she's almost 3 but she still has accidents when she's sleeping. He lifts Shay off me
Antonio- I don't think she peed
He moves Shay to one arm and lifts my shirt
Antonio- oh, I guess I didn't close it right
I drop my head to see what he's doing, the med port on my extension is open and I'm covered in formula from my feed. Also, what he hasn't noticed yet, the extension's still clamped so none of the formula has been going into my stomach.

Gabby- ya and you forgot clamp
Antonio- oh, sorry sis
Gabby- can I have a shower?
Antonio- sure, are you ok with me doing it or do you want be to call Brett or Stella
Gabby- you can
I've had to get used to letting random nurses change me and give me showers so I'm ok with my brother doing it
Antonio- ok, I'm going to find Matt so he can watch Shay and probably give her a bath
Gabby- ok
He calls up the stairs for Matt then starts waking Shay up from her nap
Matt- what's up?
Gabby- Tonio fed clothes not me
He looked confused and Antonio explained
Antonio- I didn't close the med port properly or unclamp the extension so her feed ended up all over her and Shay. Can you give Shay a bath while I help Gabby?
Matt laughs a bit
Matt- sure.
He takes Shay, who's grumpy after being woken up all wet, upstairs to have a bath. Antonio takes me into the downstairs bathroom and pulls out the bath seat we'd borrowed from the hospital until I got my own. He gives me a shower then dries me off a bit before carrying me to my room and laying me on a towel on my bed. He finishes drying me off and starts getting me dressed when we hear the doorbell.
Gabby- Janet
I'd forgotten that she was coming with all the chaos. Then we hear the door open, I guess Matt's done with Shay already. Then someone knocks on my bedroom door
Matt- Gabby Janet's here
Antonio- she's almost ready, can you get her chair from the bathroom
Matt- sure
A minute later he knocks again
Gabby- you can come in
Antonio had finished getting me dressed and was just getting my braces back on. Matt opens the door and brings my chair in.
Gabby- it wet?
Antonio- oh I didn't think about that
Gabby- cause you don't need to sit in it
Matt feels the chair
Matt- it is wet
Gabby- ok I guess couch
Matt- want me to bring you out?
Gabby- sure
He carries me back to the living room and sits me in the corner of the couch. Janet gives us a questioning look
Gabby- eye gaze
It's a long story plus it's harder to talk while I'm trying to stay sitting
Matt- I'll grab it
He brings it over and Janet holds it for me since she knows where to hold it
Gabby(📱)- Antonio didn't close the med port so my feed went all over me and my chair so it's wet and me and Shay both needed to shower since Shay was on my lap
Janet- ok, so you've had an eventful first day home
Gabby- ya
Janet- where is your chair, I can show you how to take the covers off to wash them
Gabby- room, Tonio
He brings my chair out and Janet shows them how to remove the cushion and backrest and take the covers off and how to remove the seat belt and chest harness. She also shows them how to take the cover off the headrest in case that needs to be washed at some point.
Then she looked at my room and the bathroom and asked how showering had gone. She also gave some tips on positioning me on the couch and how to support me on a regular chair since I can't use my wheelchair for a few hours while the covers are getting washed and dried.
I stayed on the couch for a while then tried laying on the couch when I couldn't keep myself up anymore but I wasn't very comfortable so I ended up staying in my room for the evening so I could be more comfortable in bed.
