She's Coming Home

Back here again

Brett POV
I told Violet where we were going on the way, we pull up and grab everything we'll need before going inside.

PSW- she's been seizing for 8 minutes now. She has seizures but it's not stopping
Brett- I know, we know her. Has she had her rescue meds?
PSW- ya at 5 minutes but they're not working.
Brett- ok. Violet, prep to place an IV and meds.
I got out an oxygen mask and switched her to that since her SATs are a bit low even with the nasal cannula. Then we transferred her to the gurney and brought her to the ambo. I managed to get an IV in with Violet holding her arm still so we could give her more meds but they didn't seem to do anything either. Her SATs kept dropping and I had to start bagging her, there's no way to intubate while she's seizing.

Brett- Violet can you tell Med we're coming. She needs dr Manning and Abrams.
Violet- on it. We're 3 minutes out
Brett- good, seizure's still not stopping and her SATs aren't good.

We pulled up at med a few minutes later, Nat was there to meet us

Brett- seizing for the past 15 minutes, not responding to meds. Breathing's been worsening since we arrived.
Nat- ok, let's get her inside

We brought her in and transferred, then dr Abrams came in. We left the room but stayed just outside watching. After a few minutes she stopped seizing. Nat intubated her and then they were bringing her back out of the room

Nat- we had to put her in a medically induced coma to stop the seizure, we're bringing her up to the ICU now. We'll set up an EEG then run a bunch of tests but she stabilized once she was intubated.
Brett- ok, we need to get back. I'm sure Matt and Antonio will come as soon as they can

Antonio POV
My phone starts ringing as we're pulling up to a scene. Everyone else has to keep their phones on silent while we're working but because of Gabby Voight lets me leave mine on, unless we're on a stakeout or something like that. I check my phone and see that its Brett, she doesn't usually call me. I answer.

A- "hello"
B- "hey Antonio. We just brought Gabby to Med"
I cut her off
A- "what happened? Is she ok?"
B- "61 got a call to your address, she was having a seizure, over 5 minutes and her meds didn't stop it so the PSW called 911. We gave her more meds but it still wasn't stopping, I had Violet call ahead so Nat and Abrams met her as soon as we got there. She'd been seizing for 15 minutes, wasn't responding to meds and her SATs were dropping so they decided to put her in an induced coma. She started to stabilize once she was intubated, they have her in the ICU and are going to run tests"
A- "ok, I'll be there soon"
B- "maybe stop at your place to get her chair and some of stuff, they're probably going to keep her for a few nights"
A- "ya, ok. Thanks for calling, I'm glad 61 got the call"
B- "me too, keep us updated on how she's doing ok?"
A- "I will"

I walked over to Voight

Antonio- sarge, I need to go. Brett just called, Gabby's back in the hospital
Voight- ok. Is she ok?
Antonio- she's on a vent in the ICU in a medically induced coma because they couldn't stop her seizures. They're running tests now
Voight- ok, let me know how it goes, you can have a few days off
Antonio- thanks sarge

I go straight to Med to see her and find out what's going on. I have to wait while they're doing some tests then I go see her. She looks a lot like she did when she was first here except she's intubated instead of the trach. Nat comes in to. Talk to me after they reviewed all the tests.

Nat- so there are no rebleeds or anything new we can see in her brain. Bloodwork also didn't show anything unexpected. We're going to leave her until the morning then try waking her up. She really needs some rest after that seizure.
Antonio- she's been having way more seizures since she was here a few days ago
Nat- I know. We're doing an EEG now to monitor her brain while she's in the coma and once she wakes up we're going to keep her here for a 72 hour EEG to try to figure out what's going on.
Antonio- so she's staying for a few days?
Nat- ya, at least 3 days, not including today but it might be longer
Antonio- ok, is there anything she needs for tonight or can I just bring her stuff in the morning?
Nat- I'm sure she'll want real clothes and her wheelchair once she's awake but we have everything else she'll need.

Once Nat left I texted Brett to see if Casey was on a call, he wasn't so I called to update him.

That night was rough, Shay was upset that her mom wasn't home and refuse to sleep for a few hours. Daycare drop off the next morning also involved a lot of crying and the staff having to carry her inside but we were going to see Gabby and we didn't want to bring Shay until she was awake.

When we got there they were just stopping all the meds that were keeping her in a coma. Now we just have to wait for her to start breathing over the vent and wake up and hope she doesn't just go right back into a seizure as soon as she does.
