"This is far enough, lovebirds," Yae Miko calls as the five of you reach the beautiful Grand Narukami Shrine, Sakura petals at your feet.
"We really... just climbed... Mt. Yougou..." You huff, putting your hands on your knees. You weren't really prepared to climb an entire mountain today.
The Traveler's floating friend giggles and twirls in the air cheerfully. "Climbing? You all should try flying next time!"
You roll your eyes. "Yeah yeah, rub it in, why don't ya? Kazuha, are you alright?"
You turn your attention to your companion. The serene samurai was still carrying the traveler over his shoulder, but he was clearly deep in thought. He hadn't spoken much while you had been climbing, and you wondered what he could be thinking about.
Oh no, did I upset him?
Paimon lazily flies around his head. "Hey hey, Kaedehara Kid, you awake over here?"
"And the last line... yes, I've got it." Kazuha finally opens his eyes with a small smile in your direction.
Ohhh!
"Huh? Got what?" Paimon asks impatiently, but you already know the answer.
"Ah, just a simple haiku I've been working on." Kazuha responds, brushing the light hair from his eyes. You smile, relieved.
Yae Miko waves at you all. "Come on now, place the traveler down on this soft bit of grass here. Who knows when they'll wake up."
"Understood."
Kazuha slowly lifts the traveler from his shoulder and places them down. Their eyes were still closed tightly, and they seemed to be in a deep slumber.
Yae Miko clicks her tongue. "Ah, finally. That incident took up a good bit of my day, how unfortunate. Now then, are either of you two lovebirds busy?"
Your heart still leaps into your throat when she addresses you and Kazuha as lovebirds. "Well, we do need to go report back to Sangonomiya..." you say hesitantly. What could she want from you?
Yae Miko gives a mischievous grin. "That works out perfectly then. You there, samurai, could you please report to Sangonomiya on your own? I have a small mission for this one here that will greatly impact all of Inazuma."
Huh???
Your eyes widen, while Kazuha's narrow shrewdly. "And how can we be sure you speak the truth? Can you guarantee the safety of my partner here on this "mission" you speak of?" he asks, his gaze serious.
My partner... wait, now's not the time!
"Exactly!" You speak up. "What kind of mission is this anyway?"
Yae Miko shakes her head. "Hear me out, hear me out. As you already know, the Fatui spearheaded the Vision Hunt Decree. But, what you may not know, is that the Raiden Shogun who was manipulated into agreeing to the decree was not the real Raider Shogun at all."
Kazuha inhales sharply. "What?!"
"Whaaaaaaaat?!!" Paimon freaks out, flipping in mid air.
You're surprised, but more relieved to know that the real electro archon may be more kind to her people.
"Indeed," Yae Miko nods. "The real Electro Archon has been meditating in her Plain of Euthymia for many years, seeking her so-called "eternity". The Shogun you may have seen at the 100th Vision Ceremony was simply a puppet with no real will of it's own. I know this to be true, as I have been the Electro Archon's servant for many, many years."
"So the Fatui manipulated the puppet shogun... and the Tenryou and Kujou clans were just okay with it?!" You sputter. That was a lot of information to take in at once.
"Woooow, that's craaaaazy!" Paimon says in awe, flying close to the Traveler.
Yae Miko sighs. "As it seems. Which is why I need your help. Samurai, I need you to deliver this letter here to Sangonomiya, informing her of the situation and asking that cute little general of hers to send his troops to Tenshukaku. And you there, water one, I'll need you to inform the Yashiro commission. Once the Traveler is awake and up to date, I will send them your way as well. Do you both understand?"
"I-I suppose so..." you say. You didn't want to admit it, but you weren't too happy with being seperated from Kazuha. You look to him, and see his own scarlet eyes filled with worry. He takes a deep breath, likely debating with himself on whether or not to believe Yae's story.
"If all you say has no trace of dishonesty, then I must get this information to the Resistance without delay. But, Y/N..." Kazuha closes his eyes once more.
Yae Miko rolls her eyes. "Oh boo hoo, the sappy samurai can't part from his love for even a moment? Nonsense, Y/N is a capable and grown person. Now go on, both of you, make haste!"
You hold back a chuckle as Kazuha's cheeks turn a lovely shade of pink.
Hehe, oh how the tables have turned~
Kazuha clears his throat. "R-Right then, let us go. And Y/N?"
You look into his eyes, slightly startled. "Yes?"
He gently takes your hand in his as he has done before, intertwining your fingers. "Stay safe for me, I beg of you. Upon our next meeting... I have... much to discuss with you."
You squeeze his hand tightly as your heartbeat quickens.
Does he m-mean—
"As do I." you say softly, a warm smile tugging at the corners of your lips.
The two of you stay like this for but a moment, but the feeling would linger long after your hands unclasped.
Finally, both of you set out on your respective missions, your hearts burning with a new sense of urgency.
It is time for the last dance of Inazuma's civil war.
