You winced as Shinobu removed your stitches, but not because they hurt. She had preemptively given you painkillers, thankfully, so it was more of the grotesque imagery that was making you want to snap your own neck.

"I know Mitsuri grows a type of herb in her garden that can be used for pain killing. Ask her to fetch you some if need be. I'll send you some directions on how to turn it into proper medicine, okay?" Shinobu pat your hand comfortingly and smiled, warming your heart. She went back to pulling out the stitches.

Mitsuri gagged and turned away as the last one came out. "I will never understand how you do it!" She cried, shielding her eyes from your knee.

"Neither will I." She replied simply.

She cleaned up the mess that followed and smiled. "Rest up, I'm assuming you both are leaving tomorrow, yes?"

"Yes, we are. Thank you, Shinobu." Mitsuri bowed respectfully as you stood shakily. Shinobu left and left you two to stand there in silence.

"Are you confronting him tonight?"

The question caught you off guard. "Huh? Oh, right. I think so, or at least I hope so." You felt crestfallen at the thought of possibly losing him, but you knew that this had to be done, no matter how bad you were with confrontation.

"I'll leave you to it, then. Good luck. Let me know how it goes, and Y/n... I love you. You're the best tsuguko I could've ever asked for." Mitsuri's gaze softened and she kissed the top of your head like a mother before leaving, her hand trailing behind her on your shoulder as she turned around.

You huffed and laid down. You lifted up your shirt so you could just see the mark Kanao's sword had left you. You ran your finger along it and smiled. "Man, she's so cool." You sighed and pulled your shirt back down.

You waited for a long while, hoping that Sanemi would come and find you himself, but he never came. You stood up and set your jaw determinedly. "All right then, I'll come to you!" You walked outside and around the estate, but he was no where to be found.

By the time the moon was high in the sky, you had given up. You trudged back inside and flipped on your pillow, burying your face in its comfort. "God damnit..." you mumbled to yourself.

You sat up and noticed Sanemi. You furrowed your brow at him, but the even tempo of his rising and falling chest told you he was asleep. "How the hell am I supposed to work this out if I can't see him?" You crossed your arms, but, regardless, laid down and eventually fell asleep.

No dreams occurred that night. Not a single one.

You woke up slowly, the sounds of the morning songbirds and the footsteps of someone walking around within the house hit you before your eyes opened. When they did, it was evident that it wasn't early. Golden sunlight poured in through your window and rested on the ground and beds below. The light highlighted the little dust boats that drifted carelessly throughout the room.

You yawned, forcefully exhaling afterwards, sending many of those dust boats spiralling through the air in swirls. You blinked slowly and turned to face Sanemi's bed. He wasn't there, and the sheets had been cleanly tucked back into their respective places.

"Hm..." you thought for a moment, "I wouldn't want to do this first thing in the morning anyway." You said sighing.

You wandered outside the room and then further outside to the garden. Kanao was training herself, as usual, and Mitsuri was cheering her on. You noticed the pin you had given Kanao was clipped neatly to her black hair. You smiled and waved, jogging over to sit down next to your mentor.
