You, Mitsuri, and a very uncomfortable Shinazugawa sat around the dinner table. Your river of tears had stopped, and Mitsuri was having you explain what happened.
"And it just made me... angry. To see it disgrace you, and I dunno... I guess a little bit confused and upset. You don't... actually think those things... do you?" You bit the inside of your cheek nervously.
Immediately, Mitsuri threw her arms around you and repeated the word 'no' a thousand times. "No, of course not, Y/n. I am so glad to have met you." She ran her hand through your hair and smiled. "You're the best tsuguko I could've ever asked for. I assure you. And you know how bad I am at lying!" She laughed, and you gave a weak chuckle too.
Mitsuri turned to Shinazugawa, who looked confused as to why she had her brow furrowed in angry waiting. "Well?"
"Well what?"
Mitsuri narrowed her eyes at him.
"What the hell do you want me to say?! Sorry you got attacked by some demon? That's what happens in the Corps! She's lucky you were there!"
Mitsuri scowled and elbowed him hard in the gut, making him angry. He cursed at her until she threw him outside in the garden. She turned to you and smiled sweetly, and began to prepare some tea.
"Why don't you go change into something more comfortable, hm? I'll make you something to drink." She soothed.
Nodding, you left the room and changed. When you came back out, Mitsuri was focused on reading a cook book while the tea was being made. She nodded to herself and repeated the directions, getting some sugar out.
You eyed the door the garden and slipped out, closing it noiselessly behind you.
"Shinazugawa?" You called out in a hushed whisper.
"What the hell do you want?" He grumbled. You turned to face him, and saw the outline of his body sitting on a swing Mitsuri had.
"I came out here to sit with you." You said, sitting down next to him.
He didn't respond for a while. "I... don't think that."
"What?"
"What the demon said. I don't think that." He set his jaw, slightly embarrassed that he had said that.
You nodded, a slow smile spreading across your face. "Thank you for letting me know."
It was so dark out, it was hard to see much of anything, but the light from inside the house provided just enough to see Shinazugawa's hand hover hesitantly over your leg, as if he wanted to comfort you, and then pull away.
You chuckled to yourself and put your hand on his leg, leaning against his shoulder and smiling up at him. He looked down at you, flustered and confused, but accepted it without any complaints, resting his hand over yours.
"I had fun tonight. Regardless of the demon." You whispered. He nodded.
"Good."
You looked up to the sky. What could've been clouds- it was hard to tell- hid the stars and any light they gave off. *It's like someone told the stars to hide tonight...
The new moon provided no help in brightening it. Coupled together, the sky was so dark, it looked almost as if you could reach up and dip your hand into the vast expanse of blackness that went on forever above you.
You knew the action of doing so was impossible for many different reasons, but you could almost see the ripples after dipping your hand in it being sent out as you reached up to the sky hopefully, daring to try.
