We used my enemy's sister to rescue our friend from a kidnapping. Did we do the right thing?
Hey everyone!
So, recently my friend Katie was kidnapped by my enemies (Brindie, Debra and Rhonda) who blame us for the death of Mavis. She was apprehended by Rhonda after going out alone at night to pick up a pizza and we haven't seen her since, although we have been investigating. We found a map in Rhonda's house with Debra's house circled. I worked out that this must be a clue, and decided that we needed to look there.
I knew that it could potentially be dangerous to directly to Debra's house, so I tried to make sure that I had reinforcements with me in case a fight broke out. Heini was coming with me, of course, and Mallory who works at the restaurant that Rhonda faked working at also said she'd help us out, because we suspect that her colleague Emma had suffered the same fate as Katie! Katie's parents (who did the catering at Mavis's funeral) also wanted to come to confront their daughter's kidnappers, and they said we could use their minivan for transport. I also asked Nigella (so is SO kind and sweet, but also really aggressive and dangerous) if she would come along to give us a hand, but sadly she was teaching a mindfulness seminar on that evening and couldn't make it.
The five of us got into the minivan, and Heini drove us to Debra's house where we were to make the big confrontation and hopefully rescue Katie. We all got out of the vehicle and Katie's mum grabbed a meat tenderiser (omfg) from out of the glove compartment, before we all marched towards the door. I didn't know whether it would be best to knock, but while I was thinking about it Heini kicked the door open and it SLAMMED off of it's hinges (like Rhonda's door). Immediately, a woman who looked very similar to Debra except a few years older approached us. She looked confused at first, but when her eyes glanced over to me, all of her questions seemed to have been answered.
"Hey, aren't you that chick that organised Mavis's funeral?" she asked me. This made me slightly nervous, as I knew that SOME people hadn't appreciated all of the effort that I had put into making sure that day went without a hitch. However, she carried on talking; "I thought you did SUCH a good job, it was really impressive how you managed to arrange it for only two days after she died". I thanked her for her consideration, and she told us that her name was Zelda-Mae, and that she was Debra's older sister. What's more was that she HATED Debra, but was generally quite low-key about it as she didn't like confrontation. I wasn't sure whether to trust Zelda-Mae, but at that moment my eyes caught a glimpse of the rattan furniture in her garden; she must have bought them after the funeral. Suddenly, I knew we could trust her.
We told her that our plan was to rescue Katie, but she said Katie wasn't here, although she could take us to Brindie's house if we wanted to check there. We agreed, as it was all we could do! We all got back into the minivan with Zelda-Mae and drove towards Brindie's house. Getting out again, we heard a faint rustle in the bushes and realised that someone was watching us! Mallory sprinted into the undergrowth and saw that Brindie and Debra had hired Marlene (another person who blames us for the death of Mavis to act as a lookout). Mallory punched Marlene in the stomach and tucked her underneath a hydrangea bush; her presence assured us that we were in the correct place.
We knew that we would have to be strategic about what we did here; if we all went charging in, guns-ablaze then Rhonda might panic and do something drastic. We decided that Zelda-Mae should go in first, as the rest of us would cause a commotion. However, if Zelda-Mae went in, she could pretend that she was there to relieve them of their guard duty, meaning that it would be easier for us to slip in and rescue Katie. The rest of us hid to the side of the building, before Zelda-Mae knocked on the door; we saw a shadowy figure let her in.
A few minutes later, I received a text; The coast is clear, you can come in now.
We all piled in to a fairly looking living room in what we assumed was Brindie's house. The only two people in the room were Zelda-Mae, and Katie was next to her and was chained to the fireplace! Zelda-Mae was trying to unlock her chains, but there were so many keys to try so it was taking a while. Heini, Mallory and I decided not to get in the way while this was happening, but Katie's parents were quite emotional and were talking to her. All of a sudden, we heard the door open and someone shouted "I forgot my purse Zelda-Mae!" It was Debra!
Debra walked in with Brindie and as soon as they saw all of us in the house they both SCREAMED "what the FUCK is going on here?" in unison at us. Debra grabbed a book off of the shelf and threw it at Zelda-Mae's head to distract her from unlocking Katie's chains and yelled "why would you BETRAY me?" at her. Katie's mum who was SO mad that her daughter had been kidnapped charged at Debra with the meat tenderiser and struck Debra on the shoulder with it, who then fell to the ground.
Brindie then shouted "omg what happened to Marlene? I'm calling Rhonda" but to stop this from happening Heini tripped her to the floor and very quickly bound her ankles in duct tape. I then took hers and Debra's phones and threw them into the fireplace (it was on). It took a while for Zelda-Mae to find the right key, but thankfully Brindie and Debra had been totally incapacitated and were unable to contact Rhonda. Eventually the right key was located and we were able to take Katie back out to the minivan.
We drove off and away from the scene of the crime just in time to see Marlene crawling out of hydrangea bush looking PISSED. We dropped Zelda-Mae back at her and Debra's house and thanked her for helping out before going back to Katie's parents' house.
Was it right to get Zelda-Mae involved in a plot against her sister? Could we have done this differently?
