- "even if he could never belong to me, I would always belong to him. Painfully, ruinously, irrevocably"
Placing a hand on his chest she stopped him, 'no' she simply stated. Her voice cutting through his own thoughts. He should tell her, she had a right to know and then it would be her choice. That was all he kept thinking. She tried really hard to control her breathing 'no' she repeated and he gave her a look that was piercing through her heart.
'No?' he said back at her, his eyes curious. Her face determined 'no, you are an engaged man we cannot be doing this'. And he looked at the ceiling shaking his head at her words, 'she wants to marry me, I don't and that is way far from engaged'.
Her head tilted to the side and her eyebrow was raised, he found it almost cute, 'it doesn't matter anymore just stay away from me and my father's house'. And with that she pushed him away from her. 'It's an empty road baby, I just happened to pass by there' was his answer and her heart stopped at the almost mocking way he said baby. It shouldn't have affected her as much as it did.
Her face hardened 'just passing by and stopping there for five minutes roaring your engine are different things'. And she made her way to the door pulling it open leaving. He placed his hand on the door shutting it back and she remained there her body still. He was directly behind her, his arm next to her head holding the door in place but she refused to turn around.
At that moment all her senses came back to her as she felt his head right next to hers smelling her hair, his mouth right next to her ear sending goosebumps all over her. 'Why so eager to leave?' he teased and she gulped, her mouth going dry all of a sudden. 'You are the one who said we should stop seeing each other' she through back at him her voice soft, honest and above all hurt.
He didn't say anything more, moving her hair behind her shoulder he let himself enjoy this moment for a little longer. His hand was caressing her neck smelling her, marking her. Suddenly she let out a gasp, his mouth was on her aching neck and all reason left. All she could think about was him, him, him.
A small moan was heard in the dark office and he stopped his assault to her neck. A hard sign escaped him and he rested his head on her shoulder.
'There are a lot of things you don't know of yet' his voice deep, serious. That comment of his made her boil and she abruptly turned around 'I am tired of hearing that!' she screamed. Her face dead serious, he looked surprised by her outburst 'I know more than you think'.
'What do you know then?' he challenged and she raised her head 'I know what you are for starters' she spit out. He froze, his whole face bleached at that and she continued 'and my family too, that I am different'.
Her arms were crossed and she waited for her words to sink in. Finally, she summoned the courage to say out loud what she knew all those years but could never admit not even to herself. He took a gulp, as if digesting what she just said.
'How?' was all that came out of his mouth. She scoffed, her eyes turning cold 'when your whole family is keeping secrets from you, talking in hush tone between themselves and disappear every full moon you start to wonder'.
'It was when you showed up that day when I was drawing outside that I started to put things together. I remembered you' she remembered clearly her sister calling for her.
Upon seeing her with the wolf she had froze in her spot and she had asked her what she was doing there, her voice was caught in her throat. And Faith had smiled saying that she had made a fluffy friend, the wolf had gone rigid under her hand. Turning her attention to her sister she had said that the wolf seemed to be enjoying her touch, her sister's reply 'of course it does'.
Back then it didn't seem like anything, now she knew deep inside her that things weren't as they looked. That there was a reason her father had never left this town and that she was being held in the dark.
James didn't know what to say he just kept staring at her, she couldn't possibly know that they were mates. All this time he had been thinking that she really liked wolfs since she wasn't scared of him as one, and she had known it was him that day watching her.
She waited for her words to sink in, staring back at him she decided to drop the latest revelation she had 'I also know that because I am different I am doomed in a way'. There was a pause, 'that I am cursed' she whispered.
And James went to her, he held her between his arms so tight because it may have been true but she was his. She still was his mate, whether she knew it or not and the fact that she was cursed didn't change that.
He wouldn't let it.
