- "you will always fall in love, and it will always be like having your throat cut, just that fast"
The next day she kept thinking about the date over and over again, it was perfect. He was perfect, she thought. He had dropped her off afterwards, but not before kissing her breathless that she had this dazed smile on since yesterday.
Rhea had come in her room and she squinted her eyes at her suspiciously 'what's got you smiling like an idiot?'. Faith widened her eyes before fixing her face, trying to remain nonchalant 'nothing' she said. Judging from her face Rhea didn't seem to believe her.
'Do you want something?' Faith had asked her 'Kerian asked if we wanted to go to that club again, they have a special event tonight something like that' a whole week had gone by from the day they went and it was Saturday again, everyone would be going from the town. She silently wondered if James would be there, he had told her before that he went there with his friends, they haven't spoken yet maybe she could surprise him.
With that thought she agreed and by nighttime they were all ready to go, this time she chose a leather print skirt and a black top that complimented her cleavage. She checked herself in the mirror before heading out, she looked edgier with the black smoky eye and pinkish lipstick she choose.
Loud music was playing as they entered, she was excited on what the night would hold and they moved between dancing bodies to reach the bar where they would be seated. It was packed, the event they held was a ladies night and they gave away free drinks. Kerian was standing in between them and was talking to this friend of his who Faith was pretty sure that he was hitting on Rhea, she was drinking in disinterest to her siblings conversation. Her eyes were searching.
She was looking for James who seemed to be a no show, she was thinking if she should text him but didn't want to seem too desperate. Her eyes widened when she finally spotted him, just like last time he was leaning on the railing looking down at the people dancing, it was like déjà vu his eyes fixed on her. Around him where his group of friends on the booth talking with each other, she smiled at him brightly then looked at Kerian quickly to check if he noticed. He didn't thankfully.
She looked up again and he was smiling back at her, she was enjoying herself right then drinking away while looking in those intense eyes of his.
'What are you looking at?' a voice startled her and she turned to find Kerian looking at her. He knew exactly what or who his sister was looking at. His friend Josh turned to them and then looked up to the exact spot Faith had been staring, her heart stopped. He was looking at James, who was now talking to his friend, and Kerian did the same then Josh spoke up 'he has been going against the committee'. Faith was looking at Josh now in interest, they were talking about James she was positive, 'he has been going against a lot of things he shouldn't lately' this time it was Kerian who spoke.
'There has been talk that he refuses to take another as a...' Kerian coughed interrupting what Josh was about to say and they were now looking at each other, 'that's why the committee got involved' Kerian said to him.
Her heart was thumping so loudly it was about to burst as they continued 'they are trying to get him with the daughter of the Eltheans' Josh had said. 'I saw her once she's pretty' that was Kerian and Faith was holding her straw moving in around looking at her drink in fake interest 'she is the only one they deemed worthy enough'.
Kerian exhaled a laugh at that, Faith felt him looking at her and continued to stare at her drink pretending she didn't notice. She kept wondering what that meant and slowly lifted her head, her eyes caught Rhea's she was looking at her in pity. And Faith smiled at her, Rhea confirmed her suspicions.
Her phone buzzed, it was a text from James 'meet me by the stairs' it read and she told her sister that she was going to the bathroom. She passed the crowd and made sure to lose sight of her siblings until she arrived by the stairs when a hand caught her own and guided her up. Light brown hair shone in the lights and she relaxed. He guided them to the first floor passing the booths to a dark corridor and stopping by a door that had a keypad on. He pressed the code quickly and it opened.
He lead her inside and turned the lights on to find an office of sorts, the first thing she noticed was a wall with a huge bookshelf that took up the entire wall, a black modern cut desk in front of it and placed opposite an armchair. The walls were dark the lights illuminating the space, there was a screen on the wall it was surveillance she realised, of the entire club. The loud noise from outside was clear, it became muffled as soon as the door closed leaving them there.
'What is this?' she wondered out loud and turned to him in question, he smiled at her 'when I said that I hang out here, I meant that I literally am here all the time taking care of things'. Her eyes squinted at him 'you own the club' she understood and he nodded. Then he grabbed her hand and sat down on the sofa that was behind the armchair, 'the question is what are you doing here?' he asked looking up at her for the first time that night.
She gave him a smile and he was still holding her hand playing with it 'should I leave?' she shot back. 'Did I say that?' he smirked 'besides I quite enjoy that you are in here, in my office'.
'And why is that?' at that moment he pulled her arm gently and she lost her footing falling forward he grabbed her by the hips and sat her down his lap. Her hair fell in front of her from the movement, he was biting his lip looking at her memorizing her face and he couldn't help himself when he slowly reached to move her hair back.
He felt her burning cheeks and he caressed them tenderly with his thump, 'you are so beautiful' he exhaled. It was the truth.
He kept caressing her face 'you still haven't replied to my question' he whispered softly. 'We were invited by Kerian's friends' she whispered back and she just now noticed that her hand was on his chest.
She went to lift it up, before she could do so he caught it in his and placed it back on his chest again. 'You should have told me you were coming' he said.
She thought 'is this the business you were talking about?' his hand was now playing with her hair, 'one of them' he replied. She was giving him this look and he craved her lips so badly, he kissed her.
She was taken by surprise and this time it was all him.
