- "and I wondered if love was too weak a word for what he felt, what he'd done for me. For what I felt for him"
'Do you have a death wish?' she whispered screamed at him and all he did was smile back at her. He did have a death wish after all.
'Come with me' he said, putting his arms around her frame he guided her to the door and she followed. Her emotions were all over the place. A part of her felt mortified that she had kissed him after what she had told him the other day. A jacket was placed on her shoulders, it was her own and her sneakers were handed to her she was only wearing her oversized t-shirt and booty shorts.
He intertwined their fingers and they tiptoed around the house descending the stairs. Faith prayed that they wouldn't get caught and just as she thought they were safe her father's Jack Russel came out of nowhere barking hysterically at them. Without a thought she grabbed James hand and just went out the front door.
Hand in hand they started running towards the lamppost where she was sure his motorbike was parked. She stopped trying to catch her breath leaning down with her hands resting on her knees. The rush of adrenaline made her feel alive and she smiled to herself. His hand was rubbing her back trying to comfort her and her eyes snapped to his.
The stare they shared was always so intense and for the first time she didn't want to know what it meant. All she knew was that she was glad she was here with him.
'Why should I come with you?' she asked softly and he didn't say a word. His eyes were never quiet, they screamed at her. His hand reached hers helping her on his motorbike and like a love sick puppy she allowed him, as if she could ever refuse him.
Deep inside her she knew that it was true, she could never refuse him. She could push him away, tell him no but could never truly refuse this thing between them and how right it felt. Faith trusted him, even after everything.
It felt like hours he was driving in the night. By the time he slowed down it was early morning, the air was chilly he had given her his leather jacket and she pulled it closer to her. He finally came to a stop in front of a white wooden house, seagulls were heard, they must've been near the sea coast she thought.
All she wanted to do was find a nice bed and go back to sleep. James fiddled in his pocket and pulled out a key 'this is my family's summer house' he told her Faith nodded sleepily in response. Their fingers intertwined once more, she stared at their hands as he lead her through the dark house, turning on the lights on his way in.
Noticing how sleepy she was he showed her the bedroom up the stairs and told her to reside there. Spotting a double bed she just opened the covers and laid inside. After a while she felt the bed deep, he was laying right next to her and his hand rested on her waist. His face was in her hair, he pulled her back to his front and she snuggled her face in his arm.
There was this feeling in her chest as if something was very wrong and no matter what she did she couldn't shake that feeling off. It almost felt like a bad omen. Her eyes snapped open, her heartbeat was racing and instinctively she scratched her chest to get rid of that feeling. She did that a lot these days, as if something was trying to find its way out.
The room she was in was pure white, it was almost serene. Her head fell again to the soft warm sheet covering her trying to get another moment of sleep. Her eyes snapped open, this time she rushed out of the bed going down the staircase frantically looking for him.
There he was in the middle of the kitchen talking on the phone, her quick footsteps came to a halt as soon as she spotted him.
Her chest tightened at the sight of him. This thing between them she couldn't understand it, couldn't fathom the meaning behind it.
His eyes never left her face. His hand reaching out to her and with a few big steps he reached her. It softly touched her cheek in a caress, her eyes closed as his palm went to her neck. 'What's wrong?' her eyes snapped open at his question.
Faith felt her eyes swelling with unshed tears. These past few weeks left her beyond confused and emotionally exhausted. At that moment she felt drained and her face must have showed exactly that. His eyes softened and he placed her in his embrace.
'No one, nothing can separate you and me' a whispered promise in her ear, she shivered and he held her tighter.
'Why did you take me?' she wondered with a whisper like they were sharing their deepest secrets. The way he looked at her sparked something inside her.
'Because you are mine and I am done pretending otherwise'.
