"Once upon a time,"

specifically in this century there was a young mated couple, they were shifters, werewolves to be exact, inherited the gene from their ancestors as they did from theirs. They lived harmoniously in a town that was surrounded by a forest, Rhododendron, protecting them from the prying eyes of humans that could potentially uncover their secret. They all lived together in a community, a pack, and there were many around the globe, living in secrecy. To humans it was just a small town, but if you were a shifter you knew better than to cross their territories recklessly.

It is important to note that all packs came together as one many centuries ago, under the ruling of a kingdom. Although the humans lived in democracy, the werewolves were all under the King's command. They lived peacefully, but when their King called they had to serve. He offered protection, union and the people followed.

Furthermore, one day the King was ruthlessly murdered and the eldest son had to be coronated even though he was only seventeen at the time, nowhere near the age. He had to offer the people reassurance and he had to lead. And that is how, for many years the werewolf kingdom continued to live in peace and harmony. The boy, sad soul he was for he was fated to be mateless as a seer had predicted.

But to continue the story, I need to explain where the young couple fits in all of this.

You see, the young couple mated quickly after they met without getting to know each other well. The woman had grew up abroad and came back to her hometown when she was older and of age to meet her mate. Due to their cultural differences, they had complete opposite mindsets and ideologies. Their arguments were a common occurrence and they had many complications that involved their families that had led them splitting up. Spoiler the mother in law had something to do with it. Carelessly they fragmented the sacred bond they shared. It was unheard of, frowned upon a breaking of a bond. They happened to have three young children, twins and a boy. The twins were both girls and a minute apart.

A breaking of a bond gifted by the moon goddess always led to misfortune, that is what the elders used to say. It was considered to be a sin, and for that someone had to punished. That had to be their first born daughter, Faith. That night they broke the bond, the sky got darker than it has ever been before and the moon goddess has spoken. Her words rung to their ears and what was done could never be undone.

'She, who has been brought into this world by those who haven't valued the bond, shall not be gifted with a mate or the blessing of shifting, and shall be doomed to live a life searching for the other half she was supposed to have'. Their daughter had woken up by a sharp pain in her chest, like something was awfully wrong and that is how she slept all night with a hand on her heart.

The woman panicked and took her children, left the small town never to return again. The couple decided that the daughter would never know what she should have been, what she should have had and would grow up as a human living a normal life. However, the moon goddess had other plans.

A werewolf, from the day they were born they were given a mate. It is arranged in a way that by the time they come of age, they are at the right time and at the right place to meet their assigned mate. So with that being said, the moon goddess couldn't just take back an already default mate.

He, her mate, whoever he was, from first glance would know that she is supposed to be his but she wouldn't recognise him of course. He is as doomed as she is. Doomed to love someone that doesn't feel the same way.

But who knows Faith might just surprise him.
