- "his gaze on me was intense, I couldn't look away. I felt as if I was revealing my entire soul to him in this moment"
He was going crazy, he couldn't stop thinking about her. This thing inside of him, this feeling was growing stronger each day and he could do nothing to stop it. She was a wave of perfection is his messy life that made everything somehow, fine. It was fine and it would be fine as long as she was there staring at him with those big eyes of hers, they reminded him of melted chocolate. She was all that made sense to him, and she was all he wanted. All these years of despair didn't mean anything anymore, not when he had her in his arms and her long black hair flowing surrounding her, she took him in a world where they only existed. That is why to him there would be no one else but her. He kept thinking about her, how could the committee even think that he would dare take another as a mate that he would even consider it, as they demanded.
He placed his head in his hands, the despair he was feeling was consuming him and all he wanted was for her to be here with him. One look at Faith and everything would be fine again. 'I want to see you' he wrote on his phone and send it. She still hasn't replied to his message from last night and he probably won't hear from her for a couple of hours as it still was relatively early.
The door of his office busted open and he lifted his head to curse at the person. 'You will take her as your mate!' before he could respond there was commotion as Cole entered with a few of the guards. The guards immobilised him and Cole spoke 'you should be ashamed demanding such an absurd thing', 'I am thinking of my sister's happiness' said William Elthean, the next in line to take over the Elthean family. James was fuming, he stood up and with steady strides reached where the guards held him in place leaning over him.
'I will never take another as a mate' the words spitting out of his mouth in a sealed promise to his destined one, looking straight into William's eyes as he flinched, even the guards did as his voice boomed through the room. He fought against the hold the guards had on him and James ordered them out. Now more than ever he wanted to see her.
It was the middle of the day when he lifted his head from his desktop, he had managed to sort all the work he had for the day and checking his phone he was delighted that Faith had finally woken up. She replied a short 'me too' it was cute and he called her asking if she was free to spend some time with him. After a final meeting he was done, changed into more comfortable clothing and headed out. She told him that she was already into town with her friends from last night and he would pick her up from there.
He found her on a coffee shop by the square, she was easy to spot laughing away while they were eating breakfast. His heart welled up. He made his way there and before he could make himself known, Faith had already turned and smiled at him. Her friends were nice, they didn't seem to mind him joining them.
Her best friend was a tallish pale guy, his black hair made him seem related to Faith with her long black mane of hair, a complete contrast to Cara's dirty blonde long hair. As usual André was being a drama queen, he was wearing sunglasses to hide the black circles under his eyes. Faith was enjoying this too much, serves him right for drinking that much that they had to carry him to bed last night.
She turned at James next to her, he was being questioned by Cara and if she didn't know any better she would say he looked a bit uncomfortable. Sipping the last of her coffee she said bye to them and slipped her hand in his pulling him with her. He was more than happy to oblige, her friend was one intimidating girl that was for sure, she looked as if she was going to chop him up if he dare hurt Faith. He kept his hand firm in Faith's and guided her to where he parked his bike.
This was the first time he was taking her from this route Faith soon realised, it was short and when she took her helmet off she let out a gasp. He was looking at her, her reaction captivated him and he was stuck there watching her. She looked at the sight before her and just stood there admiring everything her eyes could meet. From the never ending river that was trapped in the middle of two hills to the other side where she could see the town from afar.
The mountain top he took her only had a bench in the middle and nothing else. Her eyes met his 'I want to paint this' she confessed and he couldn't stand it any longer he took her in his arms. She hugged him back just as tight then stood on her toes and placed a small kiss on his cheek. It was so quick he almost didn't feel it and the world was fine again, because she was here and the smile she had on was everything for the sun shone brighter. It was fine all these years he spent away from her and watching over her, she was here grining at him like he was worth a million bucks.
That afternoon found them on that lonely bench in the middle of a mountain hill away from everyone, sharing their deepest secrets as the sun started setting down. Faith was on his lap and his hands stroked the soft skin of her milky thighs her jean shorts allowed. He confessed to her that he never had a girlfriend before, that he had never felt this way about someone, and she caressed his face her heart whispering me neither. She told him about her parents, how their divorce had emotionally affected her as a child to the point where she developed a stutter and that now she couldn't even have a normal conversation with her father.
Sometimes she wondered what her life would be like if she grew up in Rhododendron, if her parents had never separated and then shook her head. What good did it ever do to anyone wondering on the what ifs. They talked about where they see themselves in a few years, she dreamed of having her own studio space and he wanted to be wholeheartedly happy. She didn't expect that but it made sense to her, he was a successful man and the only thing in life that wasn't a given was happiness. Maybe she could be the one to give him that, was her unspoken thought.
Their hands were intertwined, he was staring at it playing with her hand that was grasped in his. There was silence around them only nature could be heard and he broke it telling her about the death of his father. She listened to him intently, about how his whole life changed after that and all these responsibilities he never wanted. Then he smiled and talked about his little brother who was the naughtiest kid you would ever meet but could somehow get away with anything.
His fingers ran over her small tattoo and her heart clenched as she stared deep into his shimmering eyes. 'For years I wondered if I would ever be able to open my heart to someone' she whispered to him and he looked at her. She didn't elaborate like he thought she would, there was a storm inside her eyes that he hadn't expected. She looked at him for a while without a word being spoken, he didn't ask any further.
And she didn't want him to she knew her truth, for who would want to be with a girl who has half a soul.
