Grumbling for the nth time, Beca dropped her head on her chest and put the file she was holding down beside the Castro's cabinet. They were in the news anchor's study as she had planned yesterday afternoon before the most horrible scene presented itself to her.
She can remember it vividly, feel the hot liquid pooling on the pavement as she fell on her knees, hear the echo of the shot and tires screeching against the pavement, almost taste the electricity on their air.
The whole Homicide department rushed down the stairs and almost tumbled over each other when they found Aubrey just a floor below their building, back facing against them as she stood still... Too still after the gunshot rang through the whole building.
"Aubrey." Beca remembers her saying, taking a step forward, like she was approaching a scared animal that's going to run away at any sign of danger.
But the dangers passed.
The shot was made.
She remembered the hot tear that escaped her eye as Aubrey slowly turned around, hand starting to taint red as it held the middle of her torso, it wasn't until blood dripped from her mouth and Aubrey fell on her knees did Beca move and caught the tall blonde by the shoulder. Chloe immediately springing into action to apply first aid on Aubrey.
"Bree..." Beca rasped as she tried to push down a sob,"Bree, do you hear me?" She whispered to her friend, who's eyes were still open but unmoving, neither of them can register the ruckus that was happening behind them as everyone started to shout and move around,"Aubrey Posen!"
At Beca's shout, Aubrey's irises turned to her, a blink... Another.
"Don't close your eyes, Bree..." Chloe said beside Beca as she put pressure on the wound,"Beca, make sure she doesn't pass out."
Just as Chloe said that, Aubrey's eyes started to close,"Aubrey no... Do not close your eyes, don't go to sleep."
"T-tired..." Aubrey answered in a rasped.
"Someone get an ambulance now!" Chloe shouted to their panicked co-workers.
"No, no, no, no, no, no." Beca and Aubrey were on their own bubble,"Do not sleep."
"Bec..." Aubrey called, eyes fluttering.
"Beca she's starting to lose too much blood." Chloe pointed out,"Keep talking to her."
"I's not..." Aubrey continued, her ears ringing, the air becoming thick and harder to inhale.
"Aubrey..."
"I's not... t-t-the ma..." Aubrey tried to talk as she choked on her blood, face flinching as she coughed more blood,"It's not Blue... Ridge." She whizzed.
"What..."Beca asked, frown settling on her face.
"The ambulance is here..." Korsak called to them as the paramedics arrived.
"We'll take it from here now, detective." One of the paramedics said as they kneeled down beside them, a shoulder on Beca's arm.
"Beca." Jane pulled her daughter from her thoughts with a hand on her shoulder, eyes equally sunken as they didn't get as much sleep,"There's nothing substantial in here..." The brunette woman said.
"There must be..." Beca croaked, voice sleepless as well.
"But-"
"Aubrey said it's not Blue Ridge... For her to say that she must have seen something when she was-" Beca paused, word too hard to say as she thought of her friend,"If its not Blue Ridge, then it must be something else."
