Monsters

We wait a few more minutes before another helicopter can be heard from the distance. Sand and dirt pick up in the wind blowing into my eyes as it flies towards us and lands only feet from where we were. The door of the helicopter opens up and a few guards step out before a lady walks out too. She walked in heels and an all-white outfit. Her bright blonde hair was tied up neatly into a bun and I recognize her instantly as my mother.

"Is this all of them?" She asks Janson.

"Most of them. It will be enough," He confirms.

"Start loading them in," She demands and begins to walk in my direction.

"Hello, Finley," she halfheartedly smiles at me as I look at my mother with nothing but complete and utter hatred. "Thomas," she nods towards the boy. Teresa walked out from the crowd, being led by a couple of guards, and towards Dr. Paige. "I am glad you are safe," she tells Teresa with a warm smile. A pain shoots through my heart at those six words.

"What the hell," Fry mutters in shock.

"Wait, what is going on?" Newt asks.

"She is with them," Thomas informs everyone.

"Since when?" Minho interrogates.

"Oh, Teresa has always had an evolved appreciation of the greater good. Once we restored her memories, it was only a matter of time," Janson cuts into the conversation.

"I am sorry," she says to us. Her eyes glimmered brightly from being full of tears.

"How could you?" I ask with tears in my own eyes. "We trusted you."

"I had no choice. This is the only way."

"You didn't have a choice? You always have a choice!" I grow angrier, if that is even possible.

"Easy for you to say. You just don't understand."

"I don't think you understand."

"Finley, please. We need to find a cure," she tries to explain.

"She is right. This is all just a means to an end. You used to understand that, Thomas," Dr. Paige looks at him, "No matter what you think of me, I am not a monster. I am a doctor. I swore to an oath to find a cure! No matter the cost."

"Even costing the lives of your own children. Did you even cry when Ben died? Did you even feel the slightest bit of sadness?! Regret?! Guilt?! Anything?!"

"I just need more time to find a cure," she ignores my questions and continues speaking to the people around her.

"More blood," Mary corrects her, speaking up from where she was kneeling in the sand.

"Hello, Mary. I hoped we'd meet again. I'm sorry it had to be under these circumstances." Dr. Paige said with a straight and emotionless face.

"I am sorry about a lot of things too, but not this. At least my conscience is clear." Mary stands and steps forward slowly to Dr. Paige.

"So is mine." Dr. Paige replied. A gunshot echoed through the thick, cold night air and everyone flinched. I shut my eyes subconsciously, but when I opened them up again, Janson stood there with a gun in his hand. I looked from where the gun was to where it was pointed.

Mary stood there in place as if she was frozen in place, looking down at her abdomen. Her shirt grew into the colour of red and she fell backwards into Vince's arms.

"Mary! Mary!" He yells. I rush over to help, but Mary was already gone. I slowly turn to look back over to Janson. No emotions on his face as he lowered his gun.
