Finley's POV:
We are all crawling through the vent as quickly as we can with Thomas now in the lead. He leads everyone to a vent door that exits into an empty hall. I notice how he is breathing heavily as he glances nervously down the halls to make sure no one is near and that no one will see us.
"Come on, come on," he ushers everybody out of the vent. "Okay let's go."
"You guys go ahead. There is something I gotta do." Aris speaks up.
"What are you talking about?" Thomas asks worriedly.
"Trust me. It is important. You guys wanna get out of here, right? Just go." He tries to convince them.
"It's okay, I'll go with him." Winston offers.
"Me too," I speak up. Thomas' head whips in my direction. He is about to argue, but I am quick to cut him off. "We don't have time to argue, Thomas." He is hesitant of me going with Aris and Winston, I can tell, however he nodded nonetheless and let Newt lead him down the hall with the others. I turn back around to see vent boy climbing into the vent and Winston quickly following.
"Come on, quick Fin," Winston calls to me. I move towards the vent and climb in, closing the wired door behind me as I begin to crawl through the vents and try to keep up with Winston's retreating body down the dark tunnels. The sharp pain does not fade as we continue to crawl, I would have thought I would have gotten used to the pain by now from all this walking and crawling, but I have seemed to be proven wrong because it hurts like literal hell.
"Here," I hears Aris ahead call while he attempts in opening a vent door.
"Let me try." Winston offers as they try pushing the vent door open together, eventually, they manage to push it open, and the two of them crawl out into the empty hallway. Once I finally manage to crawl out and stand to my two feet, I wince out in pain. "You okay?" Winston asks.
"I'll be fine, Winnie." I try to give him a slight smile to reassure him. I do not give Winston a chance to question any further as I turn to follow Aris who stands there looking at me with the same look that Winston is giving me. Concern. Worry. "Come on, we need to get going." I order, Aris nods and leads us down the hall. We are about to take a turn when Aris stops us at the sound of a voice speaking. We peak our heads around the corner and see a guard talking on a walkie-talkie.
"South corridor is clear," the guard says into the walkie-talkie.
"Stay here. I have a plan," I tell the other two.
I take a step from behind the wall before either boy could protest and begin to walk in the direction of the guard. Once he hears my footsteps he immediately turns around.
"Excuse me," I call out to him, continuing my steps towards him.
"Shouldn't you be in your bunk?" He asks.
"Yes, but... I needed a walk and now I am lost." I lie. I take another step towards the man, "can you help me back to my bunk?" I ask politely.
"Sure-" he is cut off by a loud ringing alarm and flashing lights.
Shit.
I guess my cover is blown...
A serious look is taken upon his face as he looks back down to where I am standing.
"Wait, your Doctor Paige's daughter," he states.
He reaches down for his gun, and I see from the corner of my eye that Aris and Winston were about to step out to help me, but sadly- for the guard- he is too slow to grab his gun as I kicks him where the sun doesn't shine. He falls to his knees gasping out in pain as though the air from his lungs had been taken, I take this as my chance and lift my knee into his face with full force. My knee collides with his face and he falls backwards and clutches his nose which is now bleeding like a fountain. "I'd like it if you didn't refer to me as that bitch's daughter," I say acridly. I kick my foot up into his stomach before bending down and throwing punch after punch at the dude's bloodied face until he stops trying to fight back and is knocked out cold.
