A Bong Connection. yet, again?
One weekend at home:-
"Oh my...How am I gonna finish all these orders? Mr.Madan just called and he wants 5 kgs of chocolate trifle by Monday!!" My mom said, running around the house in panic. She was not a full time housewife. She took orders for cakes and desserts.
"Don't you worry Ma! Pa and I will also help you and you get this weekend off from cooking..We'll cook!"
"That's a relief now." she said, and thanked me for my kindness.
"Let's go shopping tomorrow! dusshera shopping!"
"But I dont think Pa's free tomorrow, right?"
"Yes..we both'll go.." You know what that means? My mom ending up buying u,preen number of clothes for herself. And me, on the other hand, I'd be lucky if she bought something for me. I loved shopping! Just like my mom. But I wasn't the one with the money!
We left for the mall early in the morning after breakfast when my dad went for a dentist appointment. Me and my mom, being the kind souls we were, cut him off the hook. His only work in malls; to accompany us and stand for us in the billing counter.
We roamed around for quite a while, until we came to the teens section. I went around and looked for my size, when something caught my ears. It was a plump woman standing in front of the boys' dressing room, shouting something in Bengali. You got to be kidding me, dude.
"Are there really so many Bengalis in Bangalore or do I just keep bumping into them?" My mom snickered and hit me playfully. What?
I proceeded to look through the dresses anyway, when something caught my eyes, this time, when a guy stepped out of the boys' dressing room. (Obviously) He had a lanky frame - he was looking over at the plump lady who was handing out clothes to him. He had smooth jet black hair and it's ends fell into his small, black eyes. I immediately recognised him. Sohail?
Guess I wasn't the only one whose mother would wait right outside the changing room to evade the long lines and keep handing out new dresses to try on. He was laughing hysterically at his mom's choices, when he looked up at me.
Butterflies, butterflies, EveryWhere!
"Hey." He walked up to me and stood by my side. "Hello!" I managed to chirp in.
"Shopping for Dusshera?" I simply nodded, and he smiled. "Are you stuck here with your mom too?" He whispered into my ears. Dude! Back off! My ears were all ticklish with his hot breath. "Yeaaaaaah." I sighed and nodded, again.
His mom came over when she was done searching for some more outfits for Sohail.
"Hello aunty. I am Sasha." I greeted her innocently. She smiled back and nodded. "Is your mom here?" I nodded and pointed her towards where my mom was standing. They started chatting away in Bengali. Wait, she knew I was Bengali?!
"So. What's up?" He asked, before he pulled out his mobile and scrutinised the screen. Urgh. I hated it when somebody preferred to look into their phones rather than look into the person's face they were talking to. Look up! Please?
And magically, as if he could read my mind, he snapped his phone shut and looked at me. He was an inch taller than me.
"Hm, you have a phone?" "Yeah." In that way we exchanged numbers. We talked about each other's preparation status and exam strategies.
"Hmm." There was an awkward silence that followed, which our moms decided to break. "Okay then, fine. It's done." My mom was nodding happily to Sohail's mom. What's done? They exchanged numbers as well, and we parted ways.
"What's done Ma?"
"Oh. We fixed a lunch together. Isn't it awesome that I got a Bengali friend?" My mom sighed, excitedly. I just nodded back.
