CHAPTER THIRTEEN

"OH THANK GOD I'M OUT OF THAT ROOM." I take a deep breath beginning to pull out of the wheelchair I was been in.

"Olivia sit down we aren't near the car." My mom scolds. "Mom I feel fine-" I quiet down when she gives me a small glare.

As we reach the car she helps me out of the chair and into the car.

"I'm so excited." Mom states as she begins to start the car.

"For what?" What could she possibly be so excited for.

"For you Olivia now you can live your life without anything holding you back. And get this, Rose was talking to me about Midsummer's! We can actually go this time." I could tell mom was really happy which made me happy.

"What's midsummers?" I ask with a confused expression though I felt like I had heard the name before.

"It's like a fancy party. We get to dress up eat a fancy dinner." She pauses before continuing."We were always busy around the time and I haven't been in so long and it will be your first midsummer's."

"Hmm, A fancy party for snobby rich people?" I pretend to think about it. "Hard pass."

"It'll be fun and we can go dress shopping, get our nails and hair done, and you can go with Rafe!"

My face heats up as dad speaks up from the passengers seat. "No thank you if he wants to go to midsummers with you he's gonna have to ask the old fashion way, I'm not gonna have anymore  kissing in my kitchen. He's gotta man up and ask just like I did with your mom."

"Dad! Can you not? That's so embarrassing." I begin hiding my face with my hands.

"You didn't say anything while sucking face with Rafe." He notes as I groan. "Dad!"

Rafe was at the club Topper and Kelce with him. "So how exactly am I supposed to do this?" He began.

"I don't know man, when me and Sarah were dating we were already planning on going together but I don't know where that even stands anymore." Topper says shrugging his shoulders.

Rafe looks to Kelce for help. "Don't look at me I don't bring date, It's way too messy." He adds. "But I always leave with one." Kelce spoke winking sneakily.

"Speak of the devil." Topper nods his head towards Olivia who's walking up to where they were.

"Hey guys." She greets as she reaches them.

Olivia's POV

"You're out of the hospital?" Rafe begins to move closer to her.

"Yeah I got discharged this morning. I tried texting you." I also had to reach out to Sarah to see if she knew where Rafe was exactly who was seemingly way to busy to talk.

"Anyways why are you all just standing here?" I note suspiciously as they were all standing in a weird half circle.

Topper clears his throat. "We are talking about midsummers." He continues. "Which reminds me Rafe has a question for you." He begins walking off pulling Kelce with him.

As he leaves Rafe has an annoyed expression on his face. Rafe's eyes watching Toppers and Kelces retreating figures. He turns around his eyes softening as he meets my gaze, his body physically relaxing.

"What are you up to right now?" He says placing a hand on my back as he leads us to a seating area.

I shrug trying to ignore the feeling of his hand on my back as my face begins to heat up. "Nothing much I was bored at home, and my mom wouldn't shut up about midsummers."

"So you're going."

"Yes I am unfortunately."

"Unfortunately?" He questions.

"Yeah just doesn't seem that important you know?" I pause as he nods in agreement. "But my moms very excited."

"Well it is your first one." He states nodding again.

I shrug lightly. "Yea I guess."

"Anyways. Since you're going and I know that now for sure, why don't we go together?" I begin to blush a little at his question.

"I would love to go with you Rafe, but apparently you have to ask me the old fashion way. According to my dad." I remember back to the conversation with my father earlier. "Old fashion way?" His brows begin to furrow in confusion.

"Yeah he wants you to ask him like he asked my grandpa. But don't worry Rafe, I believe in you."

"I hope you know that I'm not very good with dads." He continues, "I'm not even good with my own dad." He mutters out slightly.

I frown slightly at his words. "It's okay it doesn't matter what he says, because I'm going to midsummers with you, no matter what."

I shoot a quick text to my mom as we head out of Rafe's car.

I stand next to Rafe as we reach my door but as soon as we reach the doorstep the door opens to my parents who holding the door open, my dad with an annoyed facial expression and my mom who is very much smiling.

"Hi guys come in." Mom ushers pushing my dad out of the way to fully open the door.

"You guys came just in time, I just finished making lunch." Mom closes the door as she heads to the dining room to set the table.

"I just came to drop Liv off." Rafe awkwardly scratches the back of his neck.

"Nonsense come in and eat." Dad says speaking up whilst moving behind the two of us as he began patting Rafe's back.

I laugh slightly trying to lighten the mood.

I look up to Rafe whilst he looks back at me with slight annoyance. I usher him to sit down making weird hand motions.

He pulls my chair out then begins to pull out his own sitting down next to me whilst my dad continues to look at him curiously. I can tell Rafe's growing either uncomfortable or more annoyed.

"You seem anxious Rafe you feeling okay?" Dad edges him on squinting his eyes.

"No sir, I actually feel fine, just had something I'd to ask you." Rafe's expression matched his words he was calm.

"What is it?" Dad taunts clearly trying to scare him off.

"I just came in to ask if I could take Olivia to midsummers." He adds with a small smile.

"You can take her I guess." Dad shrugs as me and mom look towards him with equally confused expressions.

He shrugs again as mom gives him a look. "What? It's not like he wasn't going to end up taking her either way."

"I told you." I whispered to Rafe, picking up a fry off my plate.

"He is right about one thing though, I was going to take you regardless."
