Phil's POV

I quickly threw on my shoes and tied them as I headed out the door to get to work. I brought Neko treats and some new toys that the younger Nekos might enjoy playing with.

See, I work as a part of the 'Neko Rescuers and Rehabilitaters', or a NRR. I worked day after day with cute Nekos of all ages. Some were recently thrown out, kindly passed over to us, or have just been found on the street starving.

One of the rules for employees, was that in the first six months of working there, you have to (already have or) adopt a Neko to keep to yourself/live with a Neko. I have yet to do so, and I was coming up on my fourth month of working there. I loved it, and I really didn't want to get fired. I decided that I had to adopt a Neko within the next month, or even sometime this week if I wanted to keep my job.

"Hey, Peej. How's it going? Any new ones?" I asked walking up to the counter. He tossed me my apron, and smiled. "Yep, you and I are going out to collect a small group of Nekos reported missing in an old house on Wist street just uptown." he smirked happily. "Awesome! Who's gonna watch this place?" "I think Chris will be handling this place just fine." he gestured his hand as if to say 'whatever'. "Alright, just hope he doesn't burn the place down." I laugh as I began to re-fill the Neko's box of treats we feed them, and set the toys on the counter.

The box was filled mostly with things like cheese squares and bits of bread and such, they weren't like horrible dog biscuits or anything. Even though they are partly human, they prefer to be treated closer to cats, so we do give them treats.

Later, PJ and I got the truck ready (which meant that we put human sized cages in there, just incase the Nekos fight) and we were off to catch these cute Nekos.

We drove and drove until we came to an area where almost no one lived. On one specific road, at the very end, there was an old, two storied, moss covered house. It almost looked like a haunted house from all the movies.

"I'll take the front, yeah?" PJ looked over at me once we opened up the van's back (so we could get the Nekos in quicker), and were standing a bit away from the house. "Sounds like a plan." I smiled, and walked over to the back of the house.

I opened the back door (which was surprisingly unlocked) and walked in. It was the kitchen, or, what used to be a kitchen. The walls had plants growing out of them, the floor was black from dirt, and the smell was just unbearable.

I checked the whole room, and found no one in there, so I moved to the next room. I pulled open the door to reveal a living room, where PJ was searching. He jumped slightly before laughing, "I'll keep looking here, you go upstairs." I nodded, and headed up the swirly staircase.

Once I got to the top, there were two hallways. I went left first, and opened the door at the end of the corridor. Inside, there was a bed, and atop the bed there were two Nekos. One was a female, who had green eyes, and black hair with a black tail and black ears, while the other one was pretty pale, and had blonde hair with a yellow tail and yellow ears, but had big blue eyes. Their heads flipped towards me, and they looked confused.

"Hi, I'm Phil. I'm with the NRR. We're gonna bring you to a rescue center." I said kindly. They both shared a look that I couldn't quite explain, but then smirked and walked up to me. "Ok, were the only two here anyways." The girl walked her finders up my arm, and I gently pushed her away.

"Phil?" I heard PJ walk in from behind me. "PJ, take these two to the car." I said, and slipped past him, trying to make my way down the other hall. "Where are you going, we got them all." PJ called to me as I walked away. "I'm gonna keep looking, just incase." I said reassuringly, and he nodded as he pulled the two downstairs.

"Wait, no, were the only ones here, I swear!" The female Neko yelled again. "Shh, it's fine." the other male Neko assured her as PJ dragged them downstairs.

Silence. The house rang of a deafening silence. I didn't think anyone was still here, but I kept checking anyways. My gut told me to, and so I did.

I looked in all the rooms except for the last one, which I assumed was the restroom since that was all that was be left from the house. I gently cracked the door opened, and in the bathtub up against the wall, was a tiny, shaking, brown Neko.

"Hey," I said gently, not wanting to scare him. "I'm Phil. I'm with the NRR. We're gonna take you to a new home." The small Neko, which seemed like he was in his late teens to early twenties looked up at me with bloodshot eyes from crying. "Hey, it's ok. I'm here to save you." I reassured, and crouched down so he didn't feel so over powered by my height.

The poor little boy had bruises and scrapes all over his face. I could only think that those other two Nekos did this.

"Hey, those other two. Did they do this?" I asked, and inched closer only a tad bit, so it was barely noticeable. His eyes welled up slightly, and he nodded as he curled himself farther into the tub, curling his cute little tail around his waist. "I'm sorry that happened. But don't worry, now that we're here, you'll never have to see them again, ok?" I inched closer, enough for him to notice, but not enough to be alarmed.

The poor little Neko shifted slightly, and unwrapped his tail from himself slowly. "It's ok. May I come closer so I can get a better look at you?" I asked, and he didn't move for a while. Then suddenly, he nodded slowly, making a symbol with his fingers that said "only a little."

I crawled over to him, and stopped at about a foot away when he finally started getting uncomfortable, and played with his tail nervously. "May I see under your chin?" I asked softly, and he looked upwards, but kept his eyes on me. "Ok, that's good." I said, and inched closer. "Does it hurt?" I asked, pouting sympathetically. He nodded sadly, and I felt really bad for him.

I inched closer, "You poor thing. You don't get any attention, do you?" "I don't deserve attention." he replied, and then covered his mouth quickly, before flinching away, as if waiting for something to happen. I tried to not act shocked that he had spoken, and said, "Shh, it's ok. I'm not gonna hurt you. How about you come with me and we get you somewhere safe, yeah?" He looked unsure and whispered, "C-Come closer."

I did as told, seeing as I just wanted to get this poor thing out of this gross place, and I scooted forward.

He leaned his slightly pinker than normal nose closer, and took a small sniff. I knew most Nekos judged mostly based on smell, so I just hoped I got lucky, and he liked me.

He pulled away after taking a sniff and nodded slowly. "Want me to carry you? You seem quite weak." he nodded, and I smiled.

I leaned down and scooped him up bridal style. He snuggled into me, curling his tail around himself as he closed his eyes.
