Phil's POV

Dan and I decided to walk to the rescue center today, seeing as it was only slightly chilly out during mid-fall. The trees were turning autumn colors of brown, orange, yellow, and red.

"Beautiful, huh?" I asked, looking at the trees. "It is. I like winter more though, I think. Well, actually, autumn and winter are a good team. Just after summer autumn comes around and says, 'Well, winter isn't quite ready to arrive yet, so I guess I'll stay for a little while.' It's like they're the singers that go on stage before the real performers." "That's... a really strange, and really accurate, way of putting it. You're really good with words." "Thanks, I try to bed. Rick and Leah use to hit me if I didn't speak as well as physically possible. That's partly why I'm so articulate too."

My heart sunk when he said that Rick and Leah hit him like that. He's just so casual about it, its as if this has been going on for years. Honestly, I hate to say it, but I think it has been. Those scars, and that fear, that is what about five years of pure tourture will do to a Neko.

I stayed silent, and just reached down to grab his hand. I took it in my own, and smiled a him as kindly as possible. He smile gave me a small, confused smile, and squeezed my hand reassuringly. I squeezed back, and smiled before walking up to the entrance of the center.

"Hey." Peej greeted. Dan instantly froze, and state quiet. "Danny, come here." I said, wanting to reply to PJ, but deciding that Dan was more important. I carried him bridal style and mumbled an, "I'm sorry." To PJ as I walked past. He nodding understanding, and looked back to the paper in front of him.

I put Dan in his room and said goodbye, and that I would have a meal ready for him later. He agreed, and PJ and I worked extra hard that day, seeing as it was the first day that we didn't have Chris, or close early.

At the end of the day, I had filled out the forms to adopt Dan, and PJ let me have him, even without reading it. He trusted me, and I felt really happy about that because we both trust each other a lot. We're like super heroes, ready to fight anything that comes our way!

I went to room '09 and found Dan playing with a rattling ball on the ground, chasing it everywhere on all fours.

I looked down at him, and it took him a few seconds to realize I was standing there. He blushed when he saw me, and stopped playing.

"You're an adorable kitten." I got on one knee, and pet his head with my hand. He snuggled his head into my hand and purred, one arm limp in the air, like a real kitten.

"You're my adorable kitten." I restated, kissing his forehead, and he giggled. "Ready to go home?" "And get out of this place? Hell yeah!" He cheered, and I stood up. I held out my hand, and he reached for it, and I pulled him up, but then kept my grip on his hand, lacing them together.

We left, luckily for Dan, not seeing PJ, and started walking home.

When we got there, Dan was super excited, but said, "It already feels like home to me." "Why do you say that?" I furrowed my eyebrows, curious. "Because you're here." He smiled, and hugged my torso. I blushed, then leaned down and hugged him back.

I'm so lucky to have him.
