James

I was in the kitchen taking a canned peaches out of the cupboard in the pantry. Elaine has been craving canned peaches for the last month now and it now occupied a whole shelf in the pantry so we never ran out.

Suddenly I heard a female voice, a foreign accent thick in her voice.

A dark-skinned, young woman in a royal dress, made of a white flowy tunic with gold intricate designs and matching white linen pants. Her hair was twisted into a braided crown, decorated with gold silk ribbon.

She approached me, her brown kind eyes focused my arm.

"Soldier Barnes, that's a cool arm you've got." She said, her accent thick.

Confused on how she knows who I am, I put the canned peaches into bowl and the juice in a glass. But I shook my confusion, she was probably a friend of Tony's.

"I could improve it, you know ? Give a bit of an upgrade." She said mustering my actions.

In this exact moment Tony entered the kitchen. And opened his arms in the direction of the young woman.

"Princess Shuri of Wakanda. Welcome into my humble abode. Oh, don't mind Barnes. His girl is pregnant and she's made him his personal servant. Come into the study with me." Tony put his hand on the small of her back and led her out of the room.

"Mr. Barnes. Consider it my gift to make you a new arm." Shuri said before disappearing into the hallway.

I took both of the items into our room where my Elaine was laying on our bed, reading a book. Her stomach was getting rounder, our little wonder growing in there. Dr. Cho had scheduled a gender ultrasound scan for tonight. Elaine and I were so excited to find out.

"I just got a text from Ruby, she's gonna come to visit me tomorrow to help me out because she's the only person I know who was pregnant."

Elaine's face lit up when she talked out her best friend's daughter. It made me so happy that she was able to have a connection with her life before Hydra like I did with Steve.

I kissed her forehead softly as I placed both the bowl and the glass on the night stand and let her know that I would be heading out with Sam and Steve to run some errands.

When in reality I was going to buy a crib and head out to the jeweler to finalize a design for engagement rings that I had commissioned for a few weeks ago.
If all went well I could even pick it up today.
Ever since Steve proposed to Natasha I've been planning to do the same for my Elaine. I wanted to make this absolutely perfect. Much like she was.

That same night..

Elaine

"Alright, Elaine. Let's see this baby." Helen squirted some translucent gel on my growing belly. It felt cold as she spread it with the scanner.
Suddenly the screen showed her baby. The rhythmic heartbeat sound filled the lab.
I looked to James who was practically glued to the screen.

"So, the little wonder is growing beautifully and everything looks good.
Mommy and daddy wanna see you, little one. Come on, show yourself." Helen moved the scanner around and her smile grew bigger.

"Congrats, Elaine and James. Your little one is a healthy baby girl !" Helen announced happily.

A baby girl.

A overwhelming wave of happiness spread through my whole body and I felt tears brimming on my waterline.

James looked at the screen and then at me. His blue eyes sparkling with tears as well.

Helen quickly wiped the residual gel on my stomach away and printed the pictures from the scan for us.
She quietly left the room to give us some privacy.

I sat up slowly and rubbed my exposed stomach.

"Hey little one, we already love you with everything we have in us. We can't wait to meet you." James said lowering himself to his knees so his head lined up with my belly.

He softly kissed my stomach and looked up to me.

"I love you so much, Elaine. You're gonna be the best mother to our little girl."

My eyes filled with tears again as James picked me up by putting his hands on my hips. I crossed my legs behind his back.

His lips crashed onto mine in a feverishly hot kiss.

I pulled his full bottom lip between my teeth and bit down softly.

He groaned and I felt his hand snake up my shirt.

Suddenly I heard someone clearing their throat.

In the corner of my eye I saw Bruce standing next to Helen, who wore a lopsided grin on his lips.

"Congratulations, you two. But I would advise you to not have sex in my lab." Bruce said clearly uncomfortable.

We smiled and left the lab happy.

Back in our room I noticed a crib.

A white, intricately worked wooden crib.

A canopy of white tulle enveloped the beautifully decorated with a mobile with little clouds and gold stars and moons but also little Cap shields and red stars to represent the red star on James' metal arm.

"What do think, baby ?" James said after a while.

I couldn't contain my excitement so I just let my emotions flow out of me in form of another round of happy tears.

"I love it so much, James. Truly. It's perfect." I wiped away the tears with the back of my hand.

Without any music we swayed slowly in our room, my face buried in the crook of his neck, taking in his scent and enjoying the rare moments of peace we had left.

No words could ever describe how much I loved this man.

James Buchanan Barnes. My savior, my best friend, my lover and my entire world.
