A/N: whew, that was a roller-coaster wasn't it ? This chapter will contain parts that are written from James' pov, his name will be highlighted in bold before switching perspective. I'm not gonna preface this chapter, so enjoy the ride.

There. I said it. It felt like weight lifted off my shoulders.

But that weight was replaced with something that would crush me even more.

Looking at James who stood there looking like he had just seen a ghost.
His expression blank almost shocked. His hands left my hips, he took a few steps back.

"James ?" I said, my voice quivering. I felt my vision getting blurry, tears threatening to fall. Before I could say anything more stupid than confessing my love for this man who so clearly didn't love me back, I left the room without looking back again.

James

What did I fucking do ? Why didn't I fucking say it back to her ? Why didn't I run after her ? Why am I so fucking stupid ?
I hurt the person that was most important to me, something I was so scared of doing.

I grabbed my phone texted Steve to come over to my room before I smashed every piece of furniture in this room.

I looked at my phone background was a picture of me and Elaine, kissing. We took this selfie on our way back home from our first date back in Bucharest. A wave of anger overcame me and before I could register what I was doing my phone went flying through the room hitting the wall in front of me and shattering into a million pieces.

"Buck ?" I heard Steve calling me from the door.

"What happened, pal ?" he came over to me and put his hand on my shoulder, trying to calm me down.

"I broke her heart, Steve. She told me she loved me and I froze, stayed silent. Elaine, my darling Elaine layed her heart out to me and I just stomped on it like it was a piece of old gum." I said keeping my face covered by my hands.

"Pal, hey, you're gonna be okay, just let her be for a second, tomorrow morning you go talk to her, tell her how you feel. If there's one thing I learned about Elaine is that she's got a good heart and if she loves, she loves unconditionally.'' Steve said.

Maybe he was right. I was crashed from the mission earlier. I should go to sleep.

Elaine

I was wandering around aimlessly, through the streets, the gravel and concrete beneath my bare feet the only thing I felt.
Everything else was numb.
I told James I loved him. I fucking love him. And he just said nothing.

A car drove by stopped ahead a few feet in front of me.

And before I could register anything, I was bound and blindfolded and everything went dark...

James

I woke up in the middle of the night, covered in cold sweat. I just had the worst nightmare, that I had lost my Elaine forever.

In the dark room, I felt someone coming in. At first I thought it was Elaine, my heart beat faster.

But it was Vision.

"Mister Barnes, I'm afraid I  have some unsettling news. Miss Brubaker is nowhere to be found. And just a minute ago we've got this video message from Alexander Pierce, it was addressed to you, Mister Barnes."

Rage bubbling inside of as I heard Vision say his name. I didn't need to see the message, I knew Pierce had my girl. And I was gonna fucking find him and gut him like a goddamn fish.
