The following morning, Ayanna woke up to several missed calls  and text messages from Kelly.

MESSAGES
Kelly: hey, you okay?
Kelly: I feel so embarrassed that you had to see that. I just wanted to make sure you were fine because something is going on with your dad.
Kelly: call me okay? I really don't want to have to call your father right now after what happened.

Ayanna got out of Corey's bed. He was still asleep.

"Where you going?", Corey asked in his sleepy voice with his eyes still closed.

"Living room", said Ayanna as she walked to the door.

"I'll wake up in a few so we can get something to eat", he said as she changed positions.

"Take your time", said Ayanna before walking out of the room as she called Kelly back.

"Thank God", said Kelly.

"Kelly I'm okay", said Ayanna. "I'm so sorry about what my dad did to you but I don't think he would ever hurt me"

"I didn't say he would but...it's just that I never seen him like that. Diamond never told me—"

Kelly stopped herself.

"You knew my mom?", asked Ayanna.

"I met her in the past before", said Kelly.

Ayanna didn't say anything. She knew something didn't sound right.

"And then a Vanessa came to the house saying some things and I didn't believe her at first but...now I don't know.", said Kelly.

"Vanessa? Wait I'm so confused. What did Vanessa say?", asked Ayanna.

"I don't wanna say because I don't know if it's true but if it is then...you need to be careful with your dad okay? Don't make him too mad , just listen to him for as long as you have to alright?", said Kelly.

"Okay but Kelly I promise you, I'll always be fine. I know now that he used to abuse my mom and that he hit you but...his main priority for me is safety", said Ayanna.

"That's how it was for me and I'm sure it was the same for Diamond but Brian is unstable. He acts like he's put together but what I saw last night was different. A different person", said Kelly.

Ayanna sighs.

"Just be careful", said Kelly.

"Can you at least tell me what happened? What did Vanessa say?", asked Ayanna.

"...I think you should just ask Vanessa", said Kelly. "I just wanted to make sure you were okay. I have to go"

"...okay. Thanks for checking on me", said Ayanna.

"Of course", said Kelly. "I love you like you're my own"

Ayanna smiled.

"Talk to you later", said Kelly.

"Talk to you later, bye", said Ayanna before she hung up.

Corey walked out of the room.

"Damn I slept good", said Corey.

"Can you take me to my grandma's house", said Ayanna.

Corey made a face.

"That's like an 1 hour and a half away right?", asked Corey.

"Yea. I know that's a bit of a drive but you can stay with me until we leave. I just need to talk to my cousin about something. I don't have her number and well I rather talk to her in person", said Ayanna. "I need to see facial expressions, gestures, all of that. I need somebody to tell me the truth versus me walking about here clueless."
