The 750th Hunger Games

Day four (Kain's POV)

Our alliance is down to 4 now, after Lily's cannon went. She was suddenly taken ill, and died before anyone could save her. I would grieve over her, but this is the hunger games and you don't have time for that. I walk to the pool of water we found, cup my hands and I'm about to take a drink when I hear a voice behind me.
"Don't!" A boy steps out from the trees, I instinctively grab my spear. "I won't hurt you. Don't you want to know how your friend died last night?" I can barely stop myself from shaking.
"How do you know about Lily?"
"I watched. I'm good at watching. You see that water. You see that faint cloudiness that covers the surface. Well, that's poisonous." And now that he points it out, I see he's right. "How could you not have noticed it?"
"We were so thirsty last night, we weren't thinking straight. Wait a sec. We all drank the water. Why is Lily dead and not us?"
"That plant there, the one with the orange leaves. That cures the poison."
It was also the herb everyone except Lily ate last night.
"Oh I see. Well I'd better go. Places to be, people to kill." And with that, he stalks off into the forest.
"Wait!" I yell, and he turns back. "What's your name? And what do you mean, people to kill?"
"My name is Christov. And I mean, Thor and Enmity. They killed my girlfriend"
"I'm sorry. They killed two members of our alliance too. We would do anything to get revenge. Would you join us? We would be stronger as a big group."
"Yes. But let me go and get Tomasž first. I'll ask him."
"Who's Tomasž?"
"Meine kleinen brüder!" He says with a wink, and disappears into the forest. I go back to the rest of the alliance, who were getting worried about me, and tell them everything. That evening, Christov and Tomasž come down to the cave, I think we're all beginning to trust them. We plan our attack on Thor and Enmity, who have also recruited Milo from district 8. Tomasž is only 12, and instead of fighting, he has been spying on everyone, and can pinpoint their camp. He's a nice boy too, making all of us laugh, even Emilé, who has been pretty subdued since Lily died. And tomorrow, we will put our plan into action.
