We walked slowly down to the Justice Building. The whole district, almost mechanically, queued to have their blood tested and walked into their respective age categories. I squeezed between my friends in the 13 year old section, not making eye contact with anyone. This year, 5 kids are reaped. There is only one games, but it's a brutal one. Oh, and another thing. The cornucopia will be empty this year. Tributes will have to rely on pure strength and skill to win these games. My eyes fill with tears as I stare at the ground. I had always thought of the games to be an escape route, life in the districts was almost impossible, there was no food to go around. Victors of the games got vast amounts of food for their district, but district 9 never had any victors. "Maybe I can be the one to change that," I think to myself. But I quickly banish that idea. I would be absolutely useless.
" Greetings, district 9!!" says our escort Emina Anita in her high-pitched, cheerful voice. I tuned out for the rest of her speech about the latest rebellion. "As you all know, the districts where relying on none other than Sami Oakheart to deliver the package that would have saved thousands of lives. But he never came. The Capitol crushed him, and crushed the hope the districts carried with them during the rebellion. To remind you that we can crush you in the same way, there will be 5 district 9 tributes reaped this year," she finished, glancing round at the nervous teens standing before her, "all being reaped from on ball this year." But my mind was with my beloved Great-Grandfather. Known to all of the districts as Sami Oakheart, the package bearer. How must he have felt, knowing his efforts had failed. "Saxon Russet," Emina yelled, and a boy walked out of the 15 year old section. He showed no emotion as he lifted his brown eyes and stared at the crowd.
"Saxon Russet, 15," he said, as he went to take a seat. Infront of him, Emina's hand went into the glass ball.
"Kain Karver!" Emina yells. A small scream comes from the 12 year old section, and a small girl with huge blue eyes walks up to the front, tears streaming down her face. Enigma doesn't bother asking for her name.
"Thor Tide!" Thor comes out of the 17 year old section. He stalked up to the stage, and snatched the microphone.
"Thor Tide, 17" he said, his piercing blue eyes sweeping the crowd. He had barely sat down before Emina shouted,
"Elixir Tarkin!" She swaggered up to the front, smiling to Thor, and sat down. " And, our last tribute is..." she said, and there was a pause, then silence. And I felt myself being shoved towards the front.
"Anouk Oakheart, 13," I said. There were gasps from the crowd at the mention of my last name. Then we were shoved inside the Justice Building and the heavy door slammed behind us.| Long Chapter, hoping to update again soon:)|
